LS2 Swap Advice?
I'm putting an LS2 into a competition offroad buggy and was looking for any possible real world swap advice from those that have been there and done that...
I'm familiar with the FBW, 58X reluctor issues and think I have those in hand.... but, I'm specifically interested if anyone has any thoughts on:
'
- Current tranny is a Hughes Powerglide (superglide with a turbo input shaft).... anybody done this combo with an LSX yet? Any issues to consider... bell housing, torque converter, etc...
- The LS2 will be replacing a highly customized Scubaru WRX STI motor and will be mid mounted in the chassis, facing backwards.... any things to consider there? (yea, I know....
......it was put in by the previous owner and my first thing to change is to get a real motor in there..... I am a firm believer that there is no replacement for displacement) - Given the kind of stuff we do, our rigs see some pretty steep angles and end up on their lids a lot.... the buggy had oil starvation issues with the scooby motor (even with a oil accumulator installed) and spun a main bearing... anybody done a dry sump on an LS2 yet? Saw the other thread... but I guess the real question in my mind is.... is it worth it? Is there another (cheaper and simpler) solution?
- looking for all the low end torque I can get.... any easy tricks? like the truck intake?
- anyone run zoomi style exhaust yet?
I have an older (heavier) buggy with a Ram Jet 350 in it and love that motor.... talk about low end grunt! I'm hoping I can get a reasonable power/weight compromise with the LS2 (along with the cool factor)... am I ok, or heading down the wrong road doing this swap?????
BTW, the LS2 arrives tomorrow... so I think I'll just have to find some way to make it work anyway...
Many of the top teams in our sport are running EcoTech's. 4.3's, hopped up 3.8's and VW motors these days..... but I'm going to buck that trend and I'm hoping this thing is going to be one of the baddest rigs in our series this season...
thanks in advance for the help/advice and I'll post up some pics after we get the motor in this weekend.

LS2 is info is in short supply around here, good luck.

Fellow lurker
You're right, LS2 swap info seems to be in short supply...
I will say that Mark over at Street & Performance has been a big help. www.hotrodlane.cc
