ls2 chain slack fix?

when changing cams and reinstalling the chain i notice i can rotate the cam gear side to side a noticeable amount pulling all the slack from one side to the other. I figure the chain can move a total of twice the chain thickness.

i think this few degrees of slack is enough to throw off my bs3 cam/crank synchronization (which is the symptom i want gone)

engine has about 17k on it from wheel to wheel since last rebuild.

The 2.2L S-10 engine (98+) has a chain tensioner device that looks like it could be adapted to a Gen III V8... I'd given it consideration when I built my engine but didn't have time to move on it.

I think that there is a chain dampner that can be used. I think that W2W put one on my motor.

I would replace the chain with a double roller from JP Performance. Thats your best bet. they have an LS2 version

could you list the jp parts and maybe a link to the conversion

Sorry, sure thing...New Era Performance stocks the piece. there is no "conversion" its a direct bolt in piece, it has the double roller cam timing gear for your LS2 application...its LS2 specific

Are you running a stock LS2 chain? We run the Jwiss chain on our stuff and have no issues.

I think katech makes a timing chain dampner that they use on teh c5r stuff, I remember seeing it on a motor that Ken @ eastside was building a while back... he said he got it form katech.. but maybe that's what you already have in there?

There is a timing chain tensioner that bolts on, but we have never used one yet. It comes stock on the L92.

You should contact SLED28, he ordered about 5 or 6 of them a while ago, so i'm sure he might have one that he can let go for you. They're really nice pieces!!
