Need help deciding on SB
My ls1 is going out. One cylinder has 1/3 the compression of the others, all the others are close.
I need to build a short block that wont break the bank but I want it to be bullet proof. My guess is I'll need to sacrifice cubic inches for invincibility. Its got to be nitrous friendly and use as many parts from my existing engine as possible. I’m looking for a killer street setup with 11.50 ets at the track using 373 gears. Don’t want to use 410’s but will give it another thought if I have to. Cam will be decided on to match the whole setup. Have an ls6 intake might get a 90/90. I have TSP stage 2.5 (5.3 ltr) heads to consider as well. I can sell them or have them worked over.

Looking at a few choices. There are so many.
370, 408, 402.
LME and HPE and SDPC and TSP
Would like to know how much the sneak attack 346 from Katech is even though its a long block and might cost a half a million
Looking at the x series 366 from Cartek as well.

If you can live with the car down for a while, and your block is o.k. have it rebuilt as a 346, that's probably the cheapest route to get a really strong shortblock built, or if there's enough $ in the picture a 383 might be an option reusing your block. the heads wiuld still be fine as the bore wouldn't change, but a cam change would be a good idea to get the most out of the added CI.
