I looked it up in the GM catalog and it looks like all of the LSX cars and trucks have one except for the LS7.

What about people not running one at all and just running breathers? Seems to be one of the things alot of people to do eliminate the oil coating of the intake tract.

I understand the vacum and all that, I do believe that a vacum pump in most situations will halp make power, but does the pcv with a small orifice really draw enough vacum to actually help anything?

We have had a couple of people test it for us and it did cut down on oil consumption so it does seem to do the trick.

Where is it on a LS2? I don't have the book but I do not think there is any vent on the driver's side valve cover and only a single vent to the intake on LS2s?

Not to be a pain but if there is one I want it because I am filling my catch can in 20 min trac sessions. I do not think I am burning much, but two things are happening:

  • Oil is building up in the valve covers (if I run fill tube a breather it pukes and runs down to headers)
  • I am sucking oil from valley, thru catch can on it's way to Intake. This is nothing new as all LS engines do this to some degree depending on use. The new one is moving more air and therefore more oil I suppose, dispite gen 4 valley cover.
This is really a global issue with LS engines and if there is a better solution let's find it. The bad ring seal, bad valve seal and rocker bolts leaking into ported head ports are the crux of the issue for the original poster, and I am sorry for deflecting the thread.

current confiuration on 402 LS2 ^

Factory plug on driver side rear, I think this is an 03 patch part. V

The PCV valve should be in the line from the valley cover to the intake, and has what looks like a ground strap attached to it. This is actually something to transfer heat to the PCV valve so that it unfreezes in cold weather. I've never heard of a PCV valve in the rear before, but the LS1s used to have a pipe running from back there to the PCV valve up front by the intake.

I do not think that has been there since maybe 03?

The pcv valve is located on the drivers side valve cover at the very back of the engine next to the back coil. On the second picture you have there is a plug in it. In all of the GM diagrams they show a valve with a hose going to it.

Ok, I just looked at a C6 Vette. It has an LS2 and it does have a PCV fitting on the back of the valve cover. The fitting comes with a cap on it. This fitting has a small orifice in it and the cover has a baffle on the underside with another small orifice to keep it from sucking oil. You would have to "T" into another vacuum line off of the throttle body to hook it up.
