So the only cranks that Eagle makes is 4.00" and 4.100"? That's a pretty narrow selection. What about Callies? Any difference in quality? I know Callies is more expensive, wasn't sure if its just the name.

I thought it had .065" more bore? What's DOD?

Eagle makes a stock 3.622", a 3.900", a 4", and a 4.100". Other sizes just aren't as popular. The other companies bigger cranks are probablly ground on request. I know I had to wait for my 4.185" Lunati to be made. Callies and Lunati are far superior in quality to Eagle, but Eagle still makes a good crank. That's why the Eagles are $900 and the Lunati's are $2100. Eagle just requires a bit more work in the balancing department, and it's made from Chinese steel, which is cheaper and tends to be more brittle. I believe the L92 block is 4.060" and DOD is displacement on demand.

I know 4" is a pretty popular crank size. I figured 4.100", 4.125", and 4.250 were too. So what makes Callies better than Eagle? Those 2 are the brands I'm considering as I can't afford Lunati. I have yet to decide, so I'd like to know.

I'll double check/search and see what the bore is. I could of swore I read 4.065".

Could you elaborate more on displacement on demand? Still means nothing to me. Thanks.

The block is set up for it but you don't need to worry about DOD or as GM calls it "active fuel managment" your not going to use it anyway..

DOD is an oil pressure activated, deactivation of lifters, that effectively turns the v8 into a 4 cylinder engine resulting in a 7% increase in fuel economy.

Does anyone know what extra work needs to be done when not using DOD in a shortblock build up?

You just buy the top LS2 valley cover and it blocks off the DOD oil galleries.

Not trying to drum up business here, but email me at bnutter@wiseco.com I'll help if I can, because it's definitely not up to a "vote". -Brian Nutter

4.100" and 4.125 are not "popular sizes" in reality. Sure you here alot of people talk about them, but of all stroker cranks sold, I imagine 90% are 4", 8% are 4.100-4.125", and 2% are 4.125+. As for Callies vs. Eagle, it American vs. Chinese. With Callies you get a higher quality US steel, which is more expensive and more durable. You also get american labor, and american rates, which are higher. Eagle uses outsourced labor and chinese steel which is less durable and much cheaper. Though it sounds bad, I would still place the Eagle crank above stock, but below Callies and Lunati. I've never seen anyone break a Eagle, but most people who are testing the limits are already using higer end cranks. I would look into the power levels you wish to achieve and go from there.

My friend in West Palm had a 422 built by a shop in Lauderdale 3 1/2 years ago that put down 535/540, pump gas, cam was like 230's somewhere, FAST 90/90, LS6 heads ported, and he's been spraying a 300 shot on it for a year now.

So I sure hope builders can get 525/525 today from a 422.

I think 4.00 is the max stroke crank for the L92 block. Someone asked SDPC if a 4.1 crank would fit for 427ci with the 4.065 bore. He said that it would not fit and that the block would have to be resleaved. I think it's in the L92 blocks and heads for sale thread.

I highly doubt the L92 sleeve is any shorter than the LS1/6/2 sleeve, in which case the 4.125 will be fine. This is assuming all other aspects of the block are clear.

I'm in the middle of reading all 14 pages of the SDPC L92 thread. First BG-SDPC says straight out that 4.1 is out of the question b/c the liners are too short. A page later he states that the liners are exactly as deep as those on the LS2, and that it is a piston ring placement issue.

Eagle just started selling a 4.25" stroke crank that they made specifically for the Warhawk blocks. I know that the rod/stroke ratio would be bad, but does anybody think that one of these would fit in a LS2/L92?

Stroked LS1 4.25":
4.25*1.5=6.375
4.25/2=2.125
9.245-2.125= 7.12-1.339= 5.781 rod needed to use stock pistons CH
7.12-6.200 rod= 0.920 CH
7.12-6.125 rod= 0.995 CH
7.12-6.1 rod= 1.02 CH
7.12-6.0 rod= 1.12 CH
RSR 6.200/4.25 = 1.458
RSR 6.125/4.25 = 1.44
RSR 6.100/4.25 = 1.435
RSR 6.000/4.25 = 1.41

Yes it would work, I built a 4.250 stroke motor years ago, its not recommended for street use, it will have a chance to burn more oil then normal, but it will run like a raped ape if you have the intake for it...

The liners are the same length as the LS2. I believe they're 5.4" whereas the Darton sleeves or LS7 are 5.9" but I could be wrong...it's been a while since I looked. A 4.125" stroke crank will work but if not setup right (like any setup) will have big problems. I think SDPC steers away from setups like this is because it requires custom pistons and clearances start shrinking pretty quickly. Better to just play it safe.

What the heck is up with this thread? I keep seeing it get bumped up with new postings, but when I view the thread, it still has the same last post from Randy WS6. If you're looking at the threads just browsing the section, you'll see the last post was made at 10:41 pm yesterday, but when you actually go into the thread and view it, it says the last post was made on 10/27/06.

Quick Reply: 4.1" or 4.125" stroke possible in a stock LS2 block?
