Default LS7 or 402 solid roller set up

What do you guys prefer? I am in between 427 or a 402 solid roller set up. The 402 is much more affordable and with a solid roller set up I think I can get the horsepower close to that of 427 hydraulic set up which will cost alot more. Wanted your opinions. Also, would you resleeve the LS1 block or just buy the 402 set up and be done with it? Thanks for your help.

I've been doing the same analysis. If you plan to upgrade your heads, which you'll need to do if you want to make significant HP, the cost difference is about $1500. The crank/rods/pistons will cost the same. The heads are $2500, which is less than ETP or AFR, the block is 2000 more than an LS2, but the manifold is $300 vs. a FAST at $800.

A solid roller will require some expensive rocker arms. Add it up and the LS7 will run about $1k more than a well built 402. That gets you bigger bore, better heads, higher flowing intake, and a hydralic cam engine that makes 550 rwhp. Plus, it's an LS7. IMO, get the LS7.

Wow, there's really only that much of a difference in cost between the 2?

Ok...

L92 415 cu. in. motor - $1300 block, $3000 ETP heads, $875 FAST 90mm, Nick Williams 90mm throttle body, rails?, injectors?, etc.

LS7 427 cu. in motor - $3175 block, LS7 heads $?, LS7 intake $?, what throttle body, rails, and injectors?, etc.

Crank, rods, and pistons, no price difference.

So the LS7 heads are $2500? Are these stock GM LS7 heads, reworked GM LS7 heads, or someone's own LS7 casting? LS7 intake $300. Is that a stock bare intake or does it come with rails and injectors?

Stock GM LS7 heads, don't need reworking unless you plan on going over 650 lift. Titanium intake valves, sodium filled exhaust valves.

Rockers are 150 for the set. Rails are stock LS7 at 150. Still need the Nick Williams TB, 42 lb injectors.

FWIW you can resleeve your LS1 block to 4.200 for a good amount less than a GM LS7 block.

It's about $2300 for the resleeve plus shipping two ways. The LS7 also has steel dowled main caps and that will cost you another $600. And, that's using your block.

Dragaholic is in houston, theres 3 shops off the top of my head that are in town that re-sleeve blocks, so there wont be a shipping charge, and if he gets everything from the same place im sure they will cut him some kinda deal. The main caps...thats up to the end user. I personally dont think id waste my time with em unless I planned on going FI or a really really big shot of nitrous.
