Turning a C6 into a unrestricted road race car
#361
Jason,
Care to share what main and rod bearing clearances you would recommend for a 700 HP dry sump LS2 motor in a C5, this for an old time Greenwood SCCA Trans-Am Corvette racer from the 70's?
Corvette Team Members,
Can I get some feedback from those in the know on the suggested clearances for both the main bearings and the rod bearings in an LS series race engine running an Aviaid dry sump oiling system?
Anybody have a connection with a LS series real race engine shop where they might share their suggestions that you could then pass along?
The GM factory specs says:
Crankshaft Main Bearing Clearance - Production
0.0008-0.0021 in
Crankshaft Main Bearing Clearance - Service
0.0008-0.0025 in
but that seams like a pretty big spread.
My engine guy says my motor is running .0022 to .0025 and I have now lost the #4 main bearing twice. Once in a wet sump 383 CID motor and now again in a dry sump 405 CID setup.
Strange that the main would go before a rod bearing as the mains are fed first! And if the oil feeds from the rear of the engine also strange that the second to the rear main brg would go before the front main or front rod brgs.
This is actually a continuation of my earlier thread on my race setup oiling system problems.
I've received a lot of helpful input and suggestions from the members on several new ideas to incorporate but I'm now struggling with what clearance to run in the rebuilding of my 405 CID motor.
I certainly appreciate any input.

Have Katech build your engines.

Hey Binky,
I got an even better idea, let's use your money to pay for that trick Katech engine and I would be happy to let you drive my car once and I'll bet you can't get to within 5 seconds of my time and I'm 61!
Love to have one of their motors and to be able to forget about my low budget motor and all the problems lately. I'm just trying to have some fun like I have for almost 50 years of racing Corvettes but it's not easy building a race car, paying for everything and doing all the prep that it takes to race a real Corvette race car nowaday.
Ever tried it?

WOW that is a sick build. I am just staring out with drag racing (took a while) but also want to get into doing some road racing. I could only dream about having a car like that to do it in. Now i just have to hit the lottery

So - yeah i just spent 35 mintues going through this - what an amazing machine! Does Katech do regular normal builds also at a decent price or are they only into big time builds? just askin'
