And 700 flywheel h/p N/A on pump gas with 427 ci now a days, I don't see a problem with the heads out now. Hell I've got ported ls6 heads that flow 317 to 320 cfm at 700 and I made 630 rwhp granted on 110 octane ,but still the heads are awesome today. I can't wait to try some of these new heads out!

What Oil.

Here is some real info. 427 4.125 stroke, tried 5 cams 11.7 to 12.3 comp.
3 intakes and 2 diff. headers. with ls1 heads it made 647hp. 600tq. with an hyd. cam for the street. Now with l92 and custom sheet medal intake after trying 4 cams and 2 diff. headers it did 660hp 570tq. This is at 7000rpms
for the street. These l92 like a very large header.

new numbers, changed cam timing and now 670hp. 570tq. Had ls7 heads and hogan intake on a diff. engine and that engine made less power then mine, with l92 and tpis intake.

We make 615 (at the wheels) plus on more than a few LS7s on pump, and those are street cars

Look at BMEP (Brake Mean Effective Pressure) @ hp peak rpm. It's the "great equalizer" or a good way to judge any size engine's ability to make power. A good pump gas 396 LT1 with GREAT heads can make 600 fwhp ~6300-6500 rpm with a very driveable HR cam. That's a BMEP of ~185-190 psi.

700 fwhp from a 427 @ 7000 is a BMEP of 185 psi. At 7500 rpm, 700 hp is a BMEP is under 175 psi. Yes, as rpm rises it's tougher to get the BMEP, but a BMEP of 180-185 psi in the low 7's should be quite doable with 427 cubes, as Louis said. Just get everything right!

What kind and size headers did you use? What are you using now?

1badws6, started out with a 1-3/4 header then went to a 1-7/8 header and we picked up 20hp and were able to go from 30 to 34 deg. of timing. We think that a 2 in. would be better. TPIS found that the cam liked -5 deg. of timing. Hopes this helps..

Here guys check this out. We are making 682 with 372 cubic inches right now. A few more tweaks on jetting and it should make the 700 we were gunning for. Pretty simple setup. Just very good work on intake and heads to get it there with a guy that knows how to spec a cam for the needs.
