Can I use Gen-I rods in a LS2? Any issues with the centerline offset? Anybody using them now? Just checking before I spend money.

yes you can. I have without issues. If the engine is going to be driven 100,000 miles I would use the ls1 specific rods but for performance I would not worrry.

 

does it matter? as long as the rod journal, wrist pin, length works for your application whats the differance?

Looking for a 6.200" Rods. Limited choice with on-center LSX's but the Gen-I's open many possibilities... Just wanting to make sure there was no known issues with using Gen-I rods in the LS2 block.

 

It depends like always. Many normal SBC rods will not work with certain pistons and will with others.

 

What is the application?

 

Street Strip, Turbocharged (15 pounds or less) 6.0L Iron Block 3.622” stroke with 6.200" Rods and 1.215" CH pistons = 0.004" down the hole on a 9.230" deck. 9.5:1 compression ratio with L92/L76 up top Comp XER281HR 232/236 .595/.598 on a 112 LSA.

FYI, You can run Eagle 6.300 SBC rods with an off the shelf (402-408 stroker) piston. You can come up with these with just about any dish size you want. I used Diamond -15cc dish in mine, they ended up .005 in the hole with no decking and my SCR is 8.75 with a 72 cc head and .040 cometics.

 

Who's pistons? The pin boss spacing will tell whether you can run those rods or not and the rods pin end width.

 

They are custom flattops that were made for another build but were not used. They have standard SBC pin boss spacing. What I was most concerned with was the SBC con rod bearings on the Gen-III journal not matching. I called Eagle and Crower which both backed up what has been said here. The Gen-I and Gen-III share the same rod journal dimensions and there are no issues running off set rods on a Gen-III so long as you have the clearance between the pin boss to keep true vertical rod alignment under the piston.

Yep you can't run the offset SBC rods in an LS1 engine that has narrow inboard pin boss pistons witha 1.060 top.
