Default Power increase from one cam to another.....

The guy who's gonna build my engine just did an LS7 heads & cam on a Z06. Ported the heads to flow 397@.650 lift and used a tiny 228 cam. He dynoed 568 RWHP.

He also just did a 416ci LS2 with L92 heads (365cfm) andL76 intake with a 230 cam. It dynoed 530 RWHP.

What power increase would a 242/242 cam give all else being equal for these two engines.

Is there a rule-of-thumb or something?

Do you know anyone local in need of an upgraded set of LS7 heads for a good price?

I'm local and looking to sell for $1,750.

Pm me if know of anyone...

The LS7 heads going on my engine are from my builder. But I do know someone wanting some LS7's, I'll ask him if he's interested.

Are the heads 100% complete ready to bolt on?
Have they been ported?

Where do you live?

None likely, because that is the wrong cam for either of those two cylinder heads

well, what I was trying to get at is, if this builder is using such a tiny cam that idles like stock, how much more power can be had with going with a cam thats bigger, in that range, like 240's or 250's. Because my 242/242 .610/.610 114 lsa also idles close to stock in my 436ci. I need to pick a cam for him to put in my 447ci LS7 and he wants to use these small ones. I want more power if its worth it because a little lope won't kill me. He just likes small cams because he can make power either way.

From what I've found if you do the cam right.... zero HP at the top end.

Alright, what cam would you go with in 447ci engine with LS7 heads and 11.5:1 cr? Daily driver. A little lope doesn't matter. Going for as much hp as possible without being too much cam for daily driving and a sheet metal intake.

Apparently not. I guess people just really have no clue. My builder wants me to use a tiny 230 cam that idles like stock, he says the engine will still make 600+ RWHP through my A4, but I can handle "some" lope if it'll be worth the gain. Oh well, whatever he does he does. Ordering my parts right now since I decided on a 447ci with a 4.125 stroke.

This is always a pain in the *** to do

So you want to run a sheetmetal intake and put a tiny cam inside? That is counter intuitive. Sheetmetal intakes make power on the top end.... and small cams run out of breath up there.

Check w/ Trail 70, he tried 3 different cams in his LS7-headed, sheet metal intake 440ci motor. Albeit, higher compression 12.8/1, but his runs could help you with your decision. His thread:
