NEW L76 rear drive G8 Pontiac on sale early 2008....
#21
The new for 2006 Commodore has gotten very good reviews...such as "steers and rides better than a current 530i". Of course with the latest LS technology. I think the new US built CTS shares the platform, but this one is from down under.
I only wish that a) they offered to Commordore nose rather than ugly Pontiac thing, and b) the all leather interior like the show car was an option. At under $40k with a 6-speed manual and a ride/handling/performance package close to cars twice its price...this could be a hit.
What with the new CTS-V be like?

The heads are a better design then the LS2's (L92 > 243) but the cam is smaller and the compression is lower.
They did this to reduce emissions and get better fuel economy.

I heard they had to change cams a number of times to get power down on it.
Dont forget the HSV premium brand still uses the LS2. You cant have the base model outperforming the premium brand can you!?
Anyway HSV has the short straw, the L76/L92 combo is going to smash skulls.
Guys are putting down more power than the LS2 HSV (270kw vs 307kw) with just a tune and exhaust. (Which the hsv has anyway)
As we see from LG's cam these things are going to be ballistic.

I think Lutz finally got Pontiac to become the new BMW of GM with that one. I was siked for a LS7 powered Camaro in 2009, but that was more of a dream. The L76 in this would be a nice driver with a small cam. It's going to be one hell of a setup when it's said and done, hopefully the suspension lives up to the billion dollar platform hype!

With G8 you would have to replace hood and front bumper to emulate a holden.

What are these things knocking down in a Commodore chassis when you do a tune, a cam, and exhaust? I would think it might be a touch lower than the LG numbers, since presumably the exhaust is more restrictive than LG's C6 Vette which probably has their magic longtubes and no cats. Also the compression ratio would be a touch lower on the Commodore (10.4:1, right?) than on the LG car. And LG did some head work too, the exact nature of which they aren't ready to reveal yet, so their competition doesn't scoop them.
But even with those limitations compared to the LG C6, this L76 G8 is going to be making a heck of a lot more than 362 horsepower with just a cam, some exhaust mods, and a PCM dyno tuned for 91 octane, wouldn't y'all agree?

The hood scoops make it look like a teenagers car but the rest is great. I think I will get my wife one. I was thinking about a used CTS V for her but I hate the snob appeal that goes with the caddy. If it only had a few pounds of boost she would not even notice and I could punk guys on trips.

Pontiacs been dreaming of being an american bmw for decades..
This new G8 pulls it off easy.
I'm impressed and remember the 360 hp 392 lb/ft of torque is running on REGULAR fuel.
This smokes a lot of pipes.
I wonder what can be done if its just got an air filter mod and a good tune for premium. ?
Throw headers and a cam in there and this could be a real sleeper.
I dig the looks. (but then I kinda like the new Evo X so what do I know.)
I really see this as america's BMW 545 at 30 grand. vs BMW's price of 60 g's?
That alone is impressive to me..
Mod it and all bets are off for the M5 too.
Luxury and speed seem to be available in this new Pontiac sedan.
First time in a long time. IMO
