Default What head gaskets to use on a LS2 with L92 heads

Aloha,
I am buying the L92/L76 setup and need to know what head gaskets to use. Can I get away with new, stock LS2 gaskets? I am not going to mill the heads. I think the compression ratio will probably end up around 10-10.1 or am I wrong? I asked the tech @ SDPC and he said was he thinks I need a gasket with the bore of .030 over and that I should ask you on this site. So here I am.
Thanks,
Chris

A 4.065" or larger, gasket is needed due to intake valve position. A stock L92 or Cometic (thinner) can be used. The L92 has a ~70cc volume so milling and thinner gaskets may be an advantage.

Talk to Brian Gruben at SDPC. He hooked me up with a set of Cometic .040 gaskets for my 402 l92 setup. They had them in stock.

Sorry that they did offer you more help on this, Chris. You should run the head gasket that comes on the new 6.2L L76 truck (assuming you want to stick with a GM gasket, we can also get you Cometic). It (the L76) is a 4.00" bore like your LS2 and comes with the L92 heads. It's a perfect match! They are about $28 each and we keep them on the shelf. Give me a call if I can get a set out to you

Thanks for the info. I just want to try the horsepower output without milling the heads. If I'm happy witht the output then I have that much more for the time I rebuild the motor (car has 12,00 miles). Thank you for the input. There are no issues with the stock L92 gaskets and the LS2? Any other suttle problems I need to worry about for the swap. I've spent hours reading here and have not seen serious ones, if any.

Matt, THANK YOU!!!!
Everyone, this is a class act guy! He helped me out with the whole setup. Everything from the heads & intake to the O-ring for the ported/blueprinted oil pump (pick-up). I got perfect asssistance from him. I cannot wait to install this setup and see some great power. Not too much, not too little.

I'm sure Matt told me the cometic gaskets were .051 thick and he told me the stock L76 engine head gasket was thicker. Call him. Numbers in his post.

Part number: 12610046
Compressed Thickness ~ .60"
Bore ~ 4.09x" (I put the caliper to it multiple times and had a few others try. The bores are not perfectly round and ranged from 4.090" to 4.12")

Thanks for your business, Chris! It was nice talking to you and I will definitely look you up next time we're in Hawaii!

A free place to stay for your family as I can either put you up here at my house or get you a cheaper rate in a hotel. We'll do the around the Island tour going to all the local spots tourists normally don't know about. Then a BBQ @ the beach in Honolulu. How's that sound? Thanks for your help again Matt.

I think you'll have to give me one heck of a discount for that one, ha-ha. We can however get cheaper tickets over here for round trips.

I am building that exact setup and will be going with as thin a cometic as I can for quench and to help out with the large chambers. My pistons are out .005 to .006 so I will probabaly get gaskets as close to .038 as possible. Good luck with the engine.

We have the Cometic 4.060 bore gaskets on the shelf in .051" if it helps. And of course, we can have Cometic cut whatever you want if that's still too thick!

since we're on the topic....im gonna be lookin to run about 9.0:1 for a forced induction 402 with the l92/l76 set-up..pistons are -15cc diamonds and the heads are off the shelf untouched...any idea what thickness i would need??
Matt@sdpc...i ordered a set of rockers and lifters from you last week so if they havent been shipped yet, i might ask you to add the gaskets to that order!! thanx

Ricardo, your order already shipped BUT, we could still get you taken care of on the gaskets. On the 402, even with the big 70cc chambers you're going to be back up around 10.9:1 or so even with the thick GM gasket. Or you can get the thinner Cometic gasket to help out on the quench and compression a bit more. We've seen customers having great results from both!
