Default 04 GTO needs a cam, any suggestions PLEASE!!

Hey guys, I am new the forums as of this morning. I am looking to put a cam in my GTO. The local pontiac dealership is trying to sell me the so called "hot cam". I want the lopey idle, but want a mid to high rpm powerband. Emissions isn't an issue. Basically what am wanting to know is what is a good cam for my wants and what all will I need(parts wise) to complete the install...torque converter, pushrods, springs etc. I have an A4 with the 5.7L. It is a daily driver, so please take that into consideration as well. Thanks guys and hope to hear something back!!

You are going to get a mixed bag of answers. Check with the professionals. Many are sponsors here and on ls1gto. I have a set up from FlowTech Inductions. Ed Curtis is one of the best out there when it comes to designing a package. I also saw your post on ls1gto.

Wow, a dealership that sells aftermarket cams :p.

We'll not to sound like a jerk but you should do your own research before asking about opinions as cam choices are very diverse, after narrowing the choices to a few then ask for opinions.

i ran all the LG motorsport cams g5x1,x2,x3 and x4 and they all perform. a good in between cam the g5x2 cam is nice. it has the lob idle, pulls hard mid and topend and will daily drive great. years ago on one of my old set ups i was running 12.2's in the 1/4mi. i took off the mac headers and got kooks and got rid of the 224/224 cam and got the g5x2 cam. i then went 11.7's in the 1/4mi after. the x3 cam drove just the same as the x2,but the x3 gave more power. give LG motorsports a call. leave the hotcam alone.

my car also drove like stock w/a much bigger more powerful cam,g5x3. my car also made 400hp w/a 222/222 cam on a dyno jet,but then i went to a mustang dyno and found out i only had 370hp in the realworld.
