Interesting, thanks for the info. Let us know if you hear anything else that you can say without getting in trouble.
Is there a time frame when these will become available? I imagine '08 models will be coming along in a couple months, just wondering if these will be a early or late '08 model.

Crew cab 4X4 please. Will these be getting the new 6 speed auto, or the 4l65E 4 speed?
Hope you can get it in a low level base truck. I built a Crew Cab 4X4 1LT (didn't know you couldn't build a Crew Cab Work truck) yesterday with the 5 cyl motor ar Chevy's website and it came to 24,500. I'd gladly pay 3,000 more for the 5.3 and a 6 speed auto .

I agree this would be an awesome thing for the colorado/canyon and i think GM in general. I currently have an I5 5speed reg cab and would love to see that 5.3 come out.... engine swap? oh yeah lol probably wouldnt be too hard considering all the parts would already be made for the colorado and everything would be sorted out

Will this V-8 Colorado get stronger axles and transfercase? With just a few mods you could be looking at 350+ rwhp and rwtq. With 4 drag radials hooking will the current driveline hold up?

The driveline engineers most likely have designed in a safety factor... but i don't know many guys in powertrain to find out for sure.... probably fall in to the same category like "the production ls blocks...how much will they take?"
I'm still looking into what trans they have.

Thanks for all the info. I am seriously thinking about this in a few years. It won't much matter if it is the 4 or 6 speed auto. Too bad they probably won't put a T56 in a 4wd truck. Hey SScott, if they only offer 4wd just stick the selector in 4 wheel high and forget it is there . I can't imagine they would offer AWD and 2wd/4wd together.

5 spd auto minimum, 6spd auto prefered.

The only reason I say 6 speed auto is because if it has a 4 speed auto it will almost certainly be the 4L60E. I doubt they would put a big monster 4L80E in it.
I've blown up so many 4L60Es I really never want to own one again.

Though the only thing is...when you start to add power, then yes, it'll become a problem. My reason for wanting the 4L80E or other 6spd auto is fuel mileage for a daily driver. Then again, one could add a gear vendor's overdrive.
I still am lobbying for the new 4.5L Duramax though!!!! Anyone? Anyone?

A small diesel pickup would be awesome for mileage and power but, I doubt they'd put the 4.5L baby Dmax in it. That thing is supposed to have the same amount of horsepower as the current 6.6L Dmax and only about 100 or so lb-ft less torque. Probably twist the current Colorado/Canyon into a pretzel.
I did hear that it fits in the same space as the current gas engines though so who knows.
