Default lookingfor 400+ci shortbolck for boost

Basically What would be the best budget 400+ci short block for a boosted lsx car? there are many choices out there; sleeveing stock block, 6.0 iron and the l92 that I am kinda attracted to.

looking also to run something like 8:1-8:5 CR .

any advice? who has the best budjet shortblocks out there?

6.0 iron block with some nice internals and a set up l92 heads would be nice for boost. Do you want to build it yourself or are you looking for a copmplete engine

The iron block would be better for boosting plus you can get a new bare iron block for like $600-$700

And the l92 heads will bolt up to that iron block

Iron block with an aftermarket casting head. Likely a 408 with some Dart/AFR/ETP/TFS heads. Allpro is probably not an option if you mention budget. Maybe you should tell us your end goals with the setup and we can help you out a little more.

Any 400 cid motor is going to be choked to hell with that little 76mm turbo though.

I guess " budget" wont fit anywhere if i am looking for a decent shortblock especially under 16-18 of boost but i am kindaa worried about the weight in the iron block. and ya how strong r those l92 blocks ? how much can they handle?

the weight you gain from the iron block is like 100 pounds at best. plus you get a better ring seal with an iron block that will not flex.

Iron block is 93 lbs heavier from my scale. 180 lbs for the LQ4 vs. 87 for the LS1.

But at what point does it matter to have the Iron block compared to the aluminum block? Aren't there several LSx aluminum blocks making over 1000whp and do it with no problem?

Yes there are but I wouldn't trust them for longevity or sealing. 1000 rwhp is a lot of cylinder pressure and force inside the chamber and I don't really think aluminum is up to the task of keeping the liners in place.

I would rather have the extra 93 lbs and piece of mind but everyone will tell you different.

Build a nice budget minded 408 ironblock with top forged internals and boost the **** out of it with no worrys about block strength as just 1 or 2 more lbs of boost will make the 93 lbs a non-issue!

"Budget" means something different to everyone.
To me it means using the stock GM crank that is strong and cheap,
buying $500 rods instead of big $ billets, and a using strong iron block.
In general I spend my money where needed, using some inexpensive
stuff that works when possible, and spending the big $ where it is REQUIRED.
I think that this is what Underboss was thinking.
You can spend $20k on the longblock if you want, but why?
FI is not cheap by any means, but you can build a good combo of reliable parts
that will run well without throwing caution to the wind.
