LSX block, ready to use out of the box?
For those of you who have already worked with the LSX block, would you say it is ready to use right out of the box, or does it need to go to the machine shop and be final honed, etc.?
As-delivered bore is 4.125, right?

Delivered bore is just under 4.00 and not honed. The block needs to be rough bored, then honed to size at min. Probably want to change the stock main bolts to studs also.

Also keep in mind the deck height is 9.26 from GM....all other Gen3/4 blocks are 9.24...so you need to have it decked or get a custom piston to keep from having the piston in the hole .020" too far!

LSX block is 3.990 bore out of the crate. You will need to bore and hone to size, and deck it for 0 or out of the hole depending on you set up. Mine also needed the mains honed, the clearence was to tight.

Great info, thanks all.
How have the cam and lifter bores been looking? Straight?
It's sounding like if I go with an LSX I need to get it from a good shop.

My lifter bores were dead on but my mains were undersized and we had to deck the block .010.
Total list of work to date:
Bored block to 4.165
Line honed mains with ARP main studs, slightly undersized
Tapped deck for 1/2" head studs && 3/8"" head studs
Tapped and installed .060 oil galley restricter
O-ringed deck and cylinder head for reciever
Decked block .010 - pistons in the hole .010
Cometic gasket .030(MLS)
Installed Coated cam bearings

1) I didn't buy the block from you guys and honestly won't do business with Scoggin Dickey after my jesel rocker fiasco which still is not resolved 4 months later. Not trying to take a shot at you guys but you guys have made no effort in resolving the problem. Tell Tim I said thanks for the help.
2) When we spec'd the build here we overlooked the deck height issue, we initally calculated for a 9.24" deck but after the pistons could not be made to our exact specs the combo had to change some so it worked out well in the end. The 9.25" deck height gives me alittle room to work with if we decide to remove the o-ring.
