Default l92 vs tfs

from what i have searched we all know that the tfs will give you better peak numbers and all that but is there really that much of a difference in numbers? how much more power would the tfs with a 90/90 setup net more than the l92/l76? is there really a huge difference or is the difference just in your wallet? thanks for your input

I think Vengeance would probably be the best to answer this question.

I would really like to know the answer to that. All things being equal, which top end would perfoem better with a proper cam for each.

I jusy ordered some TFS for my 408 project. I haven't seen anything "that spectacular" with the L92's. Also I wanted the aftermarket casting cause I plan on giving a big shot of the sqeeze

If you got the cash, go with TFS. If you are scraping to finish you motor, then L92 all the way.

i agree. on a budget the l92 /76 setup is a great deal for 500 rw in an m6 but a tfs/afr 225 head along with the 90/90 combo is usually good for 525 + with the right combo. if you have the funds i would definitely stay with the tfs 225/235 with a ported 90/90.

If you're gonna base your decision on the post above, then you'd be crazy not to go L92's.

25 hp for that amount of $? wtf?

Go l92's with nitrous. The smallest shot will put you over the aftermarket heads, and you'll still have the funds left over. Unless you just want to jump on the "I have XXXXX brand heads on my car" train.

For the money spent vs saved, its hard to beat the L92/L76 setup. You'll get within 25-50 RWHP of the aftermarket head and intake combos for a fraction of the cost. 25 being realistic, and 50 being the extreme. Cam choice is critical.
Alot will change when theres an available intake that out flows the L76.

I have been wondering the same thing....looks like the L92's are great for the lower rpm, budget minded...but TFS for a max effort setup.

I think Vengeance with a 416 engine has made 522 RWHP with out of the box L92's and 550 RWHP with the TFS 225's. They like the extra 30 RWHP of the TFS and the L92's required a ton of cam testing to come up with the power they made, most of the L92 cams they tested made less than 500 RWHP.

AAAHHH, yes, but the cathedrals had their R&D period also. Not to mention the L92s dont have an intake to really go along with them.

+1
The L76 style intake is the cork in a L92 head setup right now for street cars.
I think the GMPP single plane will let these breathe much better at high RPM.
More builds will surface (including mine) that will hopefully prove the L92
believers right. There have been a few FI builds post up with great results too.
Time will tell...

so would you guys say the smarter thing to do would be to lose the extra 30-50 horsepower and spend the extra money on a rear end? because im still rollin the ole ten bolt and i dont really think that that thing will hold very long with that kind of power runnin at the track. or should i go with the tfs/90 90 and pray that it holds out til i can save enough? tia

I did a very mild (234-240 403 L92/L76 500+RWHP 470RWT) and it makes enough to shread the torque tube bushings in my C5. All the HP in the world doesn't do you any good if you can turn the rear wheels.

My $.02

If you plan on drag racing it, the rearends toast pretty quickly.
