Default SBC vs BBC

Are we ok to assume the BBC is basically dead? I know there is (or was??) the 8.1L in the trucks. But are we ever going to presumably see a big block LSx with all these new block designs? What would really qualify for a BBC nowadays?

Dead as far as what? OE applications? The BBC will never be 'dead' its the most popular drag motor/ off shore boat, etc. out there.
As for OE applications, theres plenty of reasons NOT to use a large displacement, heavy *** BBC.

I guess what im trying to ask is, with all these companies- GMPP, World, Dart, etc coming up with new LSx block designs, at what point in time do the block dimensions qualify it for a big block? Or is the LSx family just always going to be SBC?

LSx is LSx. BBC is BBC. SBC is SBC. Based on CI, LS motors are small blocks. but, then again they're not.
a 454 LSx is not a big block. although it qualifies size wise.

One of the most important things to consider about a true BBC is the bore spacing.

I don't know the exact numbers, but the BBC allows for much bigger bores without having to worry about head gasket sealing or cylinder wall thickness as much as with the LSx block...

bore spacing on a BBC is 4.840" where the LS1 and SBC are 4.400"
