Default Hard time Choosing.. built LS2 or stock LS7 give me your vote!

what ya think?...

looks like it time to choose my engine.

I started out wanting a LS2 in Venny..

NOW i want an LS7..

i can afford the LS7 but am i being too much?

so please help me choose..

LS7 witch is stock is 505 hp crate from Summit.

or

LS2 built from TurnKey engine supply.. 550 hp.

both are relatively the same price.. ls7 13k.. ls2 is 13.1k
and i can pick up the LS7 being that summit is here in GA.

i know there is alot of potential for the LS7 if i build it.. but hell strait out of the crate tuned to 550.. id like to get around 600 when all is said and done.. but also im rediculous and want something pretty exotic.

both will be running a Monster built 4L60E with Twist machines paddle shrifter.. sitting in a Art Morrison AME subframe done to the hilt.

if you were in my shoes.. which would you choose?

thanks fellas!

I would definitly spring for the LS7. Instead of buying a crate LS7 you can have one built with much stronger forged components, better camshaft and valvetrain equipment and help make quite a bit more power. We have built several N/A 650+ fwhp LS7 motors for around the same price your looking at paying for a GM crate motor. Might as well get the most out of your money!

I would go with the ls7. So much more potential.

Also I would stay away from turnkey. I have heard not so good of things about them..

I have no facts, just what I heard.

Remember that you have to change out the cam Regulator wheel and the crank wheel also. So now your crate motor has to be worked on. The ls2 or Ls7 thought i would have built by one of the vendor here then you get all the goodies for the same of less. As MTI said! I did the ls2 my self and getting about 557 rwhp. Guess it will be interesting to see where this gose!

BTW what kind of nightmares is installing the dry sump?

just dry sump pan, lines, and oil cannisters?

this is going in my 67 Camaro.

Here's what I'm doing - after much consideration.
Katech value 427 shortblock (Katech resleaved LS2 vacumm impregnated block ....elims porosity), billet mains, ported pump, LS7-style forged pistons, cam, front and rear covers, pan and all the harnesses/adapters to drop it in a C5. A tiny bit over $10,000.
Stock LS7 heads and intake and TB ...about $3400 from SDPC.

Major goal is reliablity...not a DD...some road course/ track days.

Why not just build a 416ci with L92 heads and L76 intake that puts down 530 RWHP (M6) with a smooth idling 230ish sized cam for $10,000 or less. Fully forged and will last for 5 years easy.

i just want something i can pretty much drop in there, not really have to build. or just buy it built..

the LS7 i was concidering messing with it when i feel i want more umpf, so i could chill with the 505"or whatever it really is" HP till i driven the warranty out..

because the first thing im going to do is take her to lil Talladega road course that i drove last weekend..

puts ALL of this bS'ing on here into perspective...

so who would you guys reccomend as far as building engines as opposed to crates?

Barber Motorsports?

Road course is bit different stress and strain than the street, 1320 or 660.
Katech - their engines stay together. How many times have they won Lemans?
Call Jason @ Katech.

Well I broke a piston in my 5.3 and was going to have it wet sleeved to a 427 but the guy that helps with my cars said I should just get a new LS6 block and build a LS3, Talked to Lingenfelter as they were going to do the machine work and they said they would go with the LS3 over the sleeved 427 or a LS7, Seems like they were right from the way it feels, Thinking about doing a post on it now that it is together, 6.2L super charged with dart 225 heads, Eagle stroker crank and rods, JE pistons, Lingenfelter GT2-2 cam over 600 lift with the Comp super mag 1.85 rockers, List goes on and on Toped off with a alcohol injection, Don't have any ideal what kind of hp it puts out

I put this up on another thread. If you could scrape up another 4K scroll to the bottom of this page, full install, tune, and even headers and cats...Just a thought since you said you didn't really want to fool with anything yourself
