I think he meant that it will run cooler with the iron. Mine certainly does run cooler.. That was one of the first things I noticed. The other is that the rings seal up better, and there is less oil burning (less distortion). Good luck.

I like the alum blocks myself, we went with an iron block in my '99 Z28 http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...Car.php?car=12 with billet main caps because we got a great deal on the block from a customer.
An LS2 alum block is a great starting point for a lot of people looking to go for a new build, but it will indeed be more expensive than starting with a 6.0L iron block. Either way works, and works very well.
Here is a build we did starting with a new LS2 block. Bob

After 3 stock bore LS aluminum blocks giving out prematurely attempting to push under 500 RWHP, it's iron for me. New LSX is installed, 454 cid at work and I love it. No comparision, feels like the engine is on nitrous fulltime with the added cubes and the weight arguement is overrated in my way of thinking. Just add more power to the LSX, all the way to 2,500. That should offset the weight.

Sounds like you where having other issues. If you can't get an aluminum block to hold 500rwhp....
