Default Looking for a valve spring that...

Will preferably be a drop in spring that I can get a 170-180 lb seat pressure and 410-430 lb open from. The issue I see after looking at most of the drop in springs is that they only support .650" lift (.660 at most) and if I shim them I run into coil bind issues (.610ish lift).

I can machine the heads to accept a bigger spring (BBC), but was hoping to avoid that. Anyone know a good spring that will support what I need?

You should consider dual springs.

New PAC-1521

150# at 1.800"
440# at 1.100"
Coil Bind at: 1.030"
Max Lift: .700"
Spring Rate: 306#/in
Spring Weight: 95 grams
OD 1.300"

These may be a good option.

Thanks HEMIETER!!

I'll check those out, they look promising with .700 lift, a little shiming and i can probably get the seat # I want.

Or These:

Patriot Performance
Patriot Dual 'Gold' Xtreme Springs
Same great quality as the Original Patriot Gold springs.

Max lift .660"
Recommended installed height 1.800".
Seat pressure 155 lbs
Open pressure 410 lbs @ open @ height of 1.140"

Set up for a drop-in application, no machining required. Will work with aggressive LSK lobe camshafts, includes titanium retainers, Super 7 Locks, machined bases, and viton seals.

I was looking at those, I can only shim them maybe .010". I'll have to check if that gives me at least 165 on the seat.

Thanks for the input!

I have a brand new set of the Patriot Part Number: 8501 - Patriot Performance Xtreme .660" Dual Spring Kit. I bought them to put on my AFR heads, but the AFR heads came with a good set of springs.

PM me if you are interested!

I wouldnt put .700 lift on those springs,if you shim them enough to get 170 lbs your going to be at coil bind, you need at least .060 clearance from bind height

He was saying with his lift he could shim them up.

At 1.760" you should be almost at 170 lbs with the PAC-1521. With your lift of .660" That will put you .060-.070" from coil bind.

Doesn't matter though since the only 1521s that I had were prototypes for my own test puposes. A couple sets were given out after I did my cycle testing and are being put in .700" lift LSXs right now for some dyno testing.

The production batch is a couple of months out.

fyi. The rate hemietr posted is a 100 lb/in off.

Thanks for the offer, I also have AFR's with the good springs now, which is why I don't think the Patriot springs will help me any as I run into very little clearance for bind once shimmed.

My lift is only .610-.620", (first post). I was thinking a .700 spring would be good because I can shim it without running into coil bind to get seat pressure, exactly like Yeahdoug said .

Thanks, you hit the nail on the head. To bad about the production release, thats probably to far out for me. Was that 100 lb off to high? and only on the open pressure?

Looks Good. If I don't have something going before they are released, the 1521's look to be a perfect cadidate for what I need.
