Stock CI with 3.91 gears or 427ci stroker?
I am trying to decide which route to go. I want to choose the setup that will give me the best ETs. I have an 05 GTO and currently have the stock LS2 and many supporting go-fast mods. I was debating on whether or not to just stick with stock motor and add 3.91's or go with a stroked L92 427ci motor with all my bolt ons. I want the best ET's I can get, but also want good driveability on the street.

yea im gonna have to agree with this...gears are worth maybe a couple tenths in out cars and some MPH...i went 11.73 @ 118 with a best trap speed of 119.77 cam only. with heads i imagine it would run low low 11's and still be very streetable. This question though is like asking should i put a cold air intake or a supercharger....its all about your budget and how fast you want to go.

Well i'm looking at one of Texas Speeds L92 427 stroker short blocks. They are very reasonably priced and I have all the bolt-ons to go with one already. I would just have to sell my LS2 and a couple other things and I would be good to go. I think I'm gonna try to get rid of a few things and try to make the 427 happen.

I would go with the L92 427 stroker short block if I were you. I am trying to decide if I want to add a new set of AFR Heads on my LS2 or save my money for a 427. I realize that I am only going to increase to about 500 RWHP (if that) and keep a NA engine. I currently have a CAI, 228/232 @ 112 LSA cam, double springs and pushrods, FAST Intake, 1 7/8" Kooks Headers w/cats to stock mufflers, and a custom tune. So if I contine to want to add more horsepower, there is no replacement for displacement. Like 99ssleeper said, this is probably a $10,000 expenditure to move to the 427 from where I am now. I believe the AFR heads installed are around $3,000.
I need to attend another 12 step meeting this week. It is an addiction!

lol..addiction is right. I have L92 heads and ported intake already and a Thunder racing stroker cam. I can sell the gears I already have, my LS2, old cam, and a couple other things and should be right where I need to be to buy the 427 short block. I think I'd be happier with the power it puts down. Plus it would be like having a brand new engine in my car.

I have no idea what the LS2 is worth. I'm hoping to get between $1500-$2000 for the short block. But Honestly I just don't know. I know long blocks are going between $3-5k. You could piece together a full LS2 long block from a short block for cheaper than that I think.

This makes no since to me. The gears and a new motor are so far apart it's nuts. I don't know what your goals are but,I ran almost 10's all motor 346ci stock 3,700lbs weight with a head and cam package. A 150 shot got me 10.2's@134MPH. You don't need a 427ci to go fast.

My thoughts on it are now this... I weill go with the Stroker motor. Reasons for it are this. I drive a GTO that weighs 4100lbs with me in it. Gears for the GTO are $1200+ installed. I've got over 80k miles on my motor. So I could mod it us good, and look forward to a rebuild in the next 20-30k most likely. I could sell my gears, shortblock, and a couple other thins, and have the money for a Stroker short block. That makes the most since to me. I'd be starting with a fresh motor and probably have better track times and more reliability.
