Default LS7 engine temps?

Hey guys I got a friend with a 07 zo6 that he takes on a road course, and his engine temps seem alittle high. He's see 235 degrees F, sometimes 240. Does anyone think this is a little high? Hes running a Ron Davis radiator and 2 external oil coolers. Do ls7's run a littler hotter than the rest of the ls series motors? Any info would help.

Water or oil temp. ?

On a road course I see:

water temp. ~ 230 F

oil temp. ~ 262 F

Your friend may be winding the engine out to red-line. Really, there's no need to always shift @ ~ 7000 rpm.

The water temps range from 230-240, the oil temps get up to 300 with the two external oil coolers. I was just wondering if its common to see these temps with the ls7 on a road course.

My 408 would get up to 270+ when I would get on it pretty good around town. I put a 36 pass oil cooler in and temps now stay below 200 unless I really get on it hard. I think alot of our cars have have oil temp problems but guys just aren't aware of it.

My 01 Z06 would see ~ 278 F oil temp. @ Road Atlanta & VIR... running hard. Never needed an oil cooler

My 04 Z06 went up to ~ 304 F @ little Taledega in April... we put the combo radiator/oil cooler on. Dropped the oil temp. down to < 265 F.

My 07 Z06 currenty sees ~ 262 F oil temp. @ both VIR & Road Atlanta in July.

thats pretty high for having some extra coolers.
you might want to lower the cooling fan temps.

Thats what I was thinking, so I thought I would ask to hear from the guys that race their zo6 at the track and see what their water and oil temps were.

Even when my oil temps sky rocketed, I don't think my coolant temps went over 215-220. As I recalll, the issue was that the coolant alone just could not remove the heat from the oil, so I figured an oil cooler was the only answer. I bought a laser temp gauge that really gave me an accurate idea of the engine temps. Scary

Get those oil temps down. Aluminium blocks + heat = dissaster
those clearences are shifting and with the viscosity change in the oil could cause problems.

you could mic out a clearence and just by holding the part or instrument you can sway .0005 and thats with hand temp
