I think with 14:1 and more cam, that combo would be over 700hp. 11:1 is still a pump gas motor and to make over 600hp n/a on pump gas is huge, not to mention the 600+ tq. You stick that engine in a heavy *** fbody and it will run in the 10's at over 3200lbs.

Those numbers are from an ENGINE DYNO. 600 hp and 600 tq from a 454ci is way LOW. Those are numbers from 7-8 years ago with 427's and 422's. My 2002 LS6 blocked and LS6 ported heads and a stock TB made 490 RWHP, with cats. Problem is all in the top end with that 454ci. No matter how many cubes you have, the hp/tq has come to a screaching halt with that top end. Put a better top end on it and a cam to match and you could see 80-100 more HP/TQ. But its also gonna cost another $4,000 for the heads and depending on what intake/TB, $2,000-$4,000.

How mild is the cam in this motor? 623chp is really not very much.... like I asked before, why is it so soft? This motor has the compression, does it just have a stock like cam?

A 454ci needs heads that flow 400+ and a sheet metal intake to really make big power. As long as there's a plastic intake on top of it it'll never make big power.

For what it's worth, my engine made more power than that with 52 less cid. Factory ls2 block, 402", 11:1 compression. TFS Heads with 70cc chambers, victor jr and a carb, with a cam with less than 250 duration and 630 lift, it made 610hp @6600 and 560tq @ 5400 at the flywheel.
that is all irrelevant, because all I was saying is that the 454 sounded like a pretty stout piece

I know it is from an engine dyno. 600 hp is still respectable in a 454 with heads that aren't that great and a cam that is not that great on pump gas.

I would not pay to much attention to needadvice, he has a tendancy to think that everyone wants to hear his opinion, when actually no one really cares...
This engine is a great deal, and you can always upgrade at a later date, if you want more power...

I really think MAST motorspors l92 VVT motors are WAY more impressive than this motor. It just seems a bit soft for a 454, but their smaller vvt motors make some DAMN good power. I'm way more impressed with them. This motor probably doesn't have a ridiculously aggressive cam that rattles your teeth out.
