The 8 "posts" in the centre of the LS2 valley

....are there because the LS2 block also gets used to make L76 engines (as per Pontiac G8-GT) which use these posts to provide oil to collapse the collapsible lifters. The L76's use this Lifter Oil Manifold Assembly on top of the posts. The 4 solenoid valves direct the oilflow down the "posts" to the lifters when directed to by the computer.

The LS2 valley cover uses 8 O rings to seal off these "post" passages

Some engine builders do not trust the O rings and prefer to also drill and tap 1/8" pipe threads in the posts and then seal with 1/8 NPT allen socket plugs, then use the 8 O rings in the valley cover to seal as well.

Yes for DOD when the block is used in L76 car config.

Great info, I was wondering what those gaskets were for on my valley cover. I'm putting it on a lsx block and was worried I was missing something in the valley. I guess I should just remove the o-rings to prevent them from falling out. There is no ports like that in my lsx block, just an open valley. Also, what is the threaded hole at the rear of the valley cover for?

Top left is the threaded hole for the oil pressure sender.

Bottom right is the foul air exit tube from the PCV system.
