LQ9 Springs Vs. LS6 Springs
#3
Actually, around 2003 the 317 heads (LQ4 and LQ9) got the GM orange springs. These are rated at .580" lift. My 2003 LQ4 had these springs installed.

I am not sure what was put on your 317's but they do not have orange springs stock. PN 12589774 is the newest part number and it is used on the LS1, LS4, LQ4, LQ9, L92 and many other low lift camshaft engines. They are raw steel colored with a pink stripe.
GM put the LS6 spring is those kits for a reason, they match the lift of the camshaft. The Hot Cam only has .525 lift. Unless you want coil bind I wouldn't use the springs from the 317 heads.
Information below is from the GM Performance Parts catalog:
12589774 Valve Springs
• Beehive style springs
• Standard L76/L92 springs
• 1.800" installed height @ 90# pressure
• 1.300" @ 264# pressure
• Max lift .530"
12586484 Valve Springs • Beehive style springs
• Standard LS6/LS3 springs
• 1.800" installed height @ 90# pressure
• 1.250" @ 295# pressure
• Max lift .570"
