All LS3s are 58 tooth.

If it is a stock GM LS3 it should have a 58x reluctor and the 08 LS3 Vettes have an E-38.
It is more common and easier to use an adapted E40 however. The PCM needs to have many IOs disabled and the harness simplified.

As See5 suggests, you can make the LS3 work with earlier (97-04) ECUs by swapping the reluctor wheel and cam gear (24x reluctor wheel, 2005 LS2 cam gear).

If you don't swap the reluctor wheel, there is a version of the E38 controller that GM has released that is set up explicitly for retrofit swaps, complete with harness and DBW throttle pedal:

Just over $1K US, pretty inexpensive all things considered.

Actually, the GMPP kit is based on an E67 controller.

And it works very well.

An E38 or E67 will work with the 58x motor. It was my understanding that an E40 will only work the 24x motor.

The E38 is becoming pretty easy to find since they come in a ton of newer (07-up) GM cars. Your tuner should be able to get rid of all the excess junk pretty easily. Actually I will have one available shortly if your interested.
