is this possible
You are much better off pulling the engine.
Trying to install the pistons/rods into a block that is still bolted to the car will be a PITA.
Not to mention the chance of getting dirt in the engine while climbing all over it.
The crank will need to be balanced anyway, so just pull the engine and be done with it.
The steps that I know of (I'm sure people will fill in what I'm missing):
* Unbolt the top of the strut towers from the inside of the engine compartment
* Remove the ECM, and unplug the harness that goes into the passenger compartment (the connector is on the inside of the car)
* Negative and positive battery cables that goes to the starter and alternator
* Brake booster hose
* Put a support under the tranny to keep it from falling backwards
* Unbolt the (six?) bolts holding the subframe and K-member to the chassis
* Lift the chassis (slowly to see if you've missed anything) off of the engine/tranny/front suspension.
If I recall correctly, the TV show Musclecar did a walkthrough of this on their 4th gen Camaro. Couldn't find the clip on their website though.
