Default what heads for my 416ci setup???

Here is the setup I am in the process of putting in. All I have left to do is pick out which heads to get. I want 225 AFRs but I kinda don't have $2500 laying around. What heads would you suggest? Any one have expierience with Patriot, Texas Speeds heads, or something a lil more reasonably priced not affecting performance all that much. Car is going to be naturally aspirrated and street driven quite a bit but still be able to tear it up at the track.

416ci L92 Aluminum Block 4.067 Bore

My vote goes for saving and doing it once and doing it right with some AFR225's since its a brand new big cubes motor.

But Im a bit biased...

yes my cam is very small. I actually bought the cam through you guys. I was originally going to use ported 241 heads that I already had and the springs were only rated for .600 lift so that is why I picked out that cam. But I sold the heads to my buddy so thats why I'm looking for new ones. Isn't TFS 235 more expensive than the AFRs? And I also heard you have to change your rocker setup with the TFS heads. is that true? I already bought 1.7 yella terra roller rockers

Everybody can say what they want, but there is nothing wrong with a good old set of stage 3 6.0 heads. Run a 2.10/1.60 ferrea valve in them and you move some serious air. PRC and TEA are good companies to talk to. You dont have to change your rockers or shell out the $2500+ with the other heads. That is my vote for a guy on a budget.

TFS 235 heads are on par with AFR's pricing, both are great heads.

TFS heads work with yella terra LS1 rocker arms.

This is actually a great suggestion. You stated your on a budget and can't spend $2500. The TFS will cost you more than the AFR's. The AFR will accept your stock rocker. The TFS your looking at 385-415 for a set of rockers in addtion to the cost of the head.

Look for a used set of AFR's or TFS, hard to find they go quick when. Stage 3 LS6 head isn't the least expensive cnc'ed oem head either. Cartek as well as a few others in addition to who's already been mentioned should be considered. Look at race results to see who's heads are making power.
Some stage 3's outshine other stage 3's so you need to do some research on them. Where an AFR or TFS or ET head is a proven aftermarket performer out of the box. I can swing you a deal on AFR's, I'm having a sale on them but they aren't going to be as cheap as a ls6 head still.

Any cylinder head with bronze valve guides its recommended to use roller rockers, so this isn't just limited to TFS heads. ET 11º heads have been out long enough we've pulled them off for various reasons (rebuild etc.) and needed new valve guides in some cases.

Issue with used heads, you don't know what your getting into. Anytime someone brings us a set of Used heads. We have them cleaned, milled, replace valve seals and check valve job, before the heads are installed, your anther $500 into them, assuming they don't need any valves, guides or springs.

i have used pretty much all the aftermarket heads except for Dart. i personally like the trickflows and WCCH edelbrock 245's . i recently built a 402 12.5:1 with Wcch Edelbrock 245's and 243-251 110lsa cam, and made 561 rwhp-503 rwtq with that combo, here is the thread with more info:

I am about tired of every post being about Trickflow or AFR everytime someone needs heads. How many of you people replying paid any attention to the fact he has a budget. This internet bandwagon BS of spewing the same thing in every post does nothing but waste bandwidth.

Hmm... Why would you do that when both TEA and TFS recommend the roller rockers?

BTW we have TFS 245's with HS RR on our LSX 454 build (still waiting to go in) so I am just curious.
