Default Location of block heater

I am looking for locations to install a temp gauge sensor - none seem to be found. A thought I had was to use the port for the optional block heater but cannot find where GM put it. They used to be in the core plugs but these motors don't have one.

Where did GM put the heater?

On LS's the temp sender is in the head, but don't know about Gen V. If in the head, use the port in the opposite head.

It is not - GEN 5's have the sensor in the water pump.

Need to know where the heater element goes.

I might have found something.
On the left rear of the engine just above the oil filter is a removeable plug.
See if yours has that.
If not, try a radiator hose adapter.

That plug looks like it belongs to an oil cooler.

Hose adapter is last resort here - I want it to look OEM

Remove it and see what comes out.
If it's on the side of the block a bit above the filter, it still might gointo the water jacket. But I AM just speculating....

I am beginning to think that is the critter. This guy did a video putting in a block heater - he pulled it off the front drivers side.

May be a 6.2 vs. 5.3 thing. He says it is a 28mm thread with 17mm hex key, Expansion? uhhh....

ICT Billet makes an adapter that I used to mount the temp sender in the coolant jacket. Unfortunately it had a hex size of 1-1/2" - I did not have a socket that big nor knew anyone close who does.

So I mounted it in the mill, calculating if I removed 0.075" per side my 34mm socket would work. 20 minutes later it was fitted up in the block and snugged down.

I will need a heat shield from the exhaust heat
