Default Dad had to replace a L83 already...

Dad is a GM tech. They had to get a motor off assembly line and GM wants the old motor back ASAP to diagnose. Don't know what was even going on I just pulled in was like 'hey look, a gen v motor on a pallet!' So wanted to steal...

Gonna ask him what the symptoms were...

I'm lost as to how an engine needs to be pulled from a car not even for sale yet? Is it out of a GM CEO's Vette?

Even brand new engines can have a dud or two in the millions of otherwise good ones, so it's not that surprising.

Nothing is always 100% perfect.

It could be anything. How many LS's got pulled for piston slap, that had no measurable effect on longevity or performance? I am not shocked they want to have a look at it.

Even with details one engine is anecdotal at best. Details would be nice to know though.

Without details this thread sorta turns into.... [SQUIRREL!!!]

Well kinda funny...

Many codes flashing couldn't get rid of. GM had them replace motor.

Most likely just oil weight! These take 0w20 and they are sure it wasn't 0w20 in there.

Yep, Dexos 0w20!

"Oil capacity has been increased to six quarts for the 4.3L V-6 and eight quarts for the V-8 engines. All engines use GM’s Dexos oil for increased fuel efficiency and longer oil life, and V-8s are engineered to use 0W/20 oil to improve lubrication and reduce friction."

And I thought 5 W 30 was thin. That 0W20 will probably pour like water !

Yea but you can go twice as long on a oil change, so it ends up costing no more then a convential 5-6quart engine over time.

Yeah lsxchevelle was telling us about this, a local friend of mine. Pretty crazy. but with a new motor just out, there are always going to be a first few year run issues like with the LS1's when they came out. And it will be improved over the next several years that they use this engine. I think a new L83 will be standard for engine swaps in the next few years LTx's making a come back. His dad is a master GM tech that has worked for Cadillac, Hummer and Saab as well as various other gm products.
