Default Katech development LT1 engine on the dyno

After lots of fabrication, adaptation, and wiring we finally have our development LT1 engine on the dyno. I spent this afternoon on cell 2 wiring it up as one of our engine builders fabricated the last needed adapters and another hooked up the dyno throttle control to the ETC pedal. Tomorrow we fire it up and get a baseline.

Testing schedule:
-Baseline with OEM manifolds and cats
-Halltech C7 prototype intake
-Switch to dyno headers with 8 channel wideband/EGT for tuning
-Camshaft testing
-Katech CNC-ported heads
-....?

This testing will spread out over some time as parts are developed.

Tomorrow the fun begins...

How do you feel the aftermarket will handle the development of new parts compared of the new Gen V family over the Gen III family when it was first released? Do you guys anticipate an aftermarket of similar size as the LSx platform in 10-15 years from now?

If they put this engine in just about everything from hipo cars to regular cars and trucks then I don't see why not. Especially if they are around for over a decade.

Yes. I believe it will be the same as Gen 3-4. This is the future.

Well I meant it more in terms of what can and cannot be improved upon really. Like are there some things the aftermarket just won't be able to create that are better overall etc.

Unless EPA and CAFE laws all of a sudden go away completely, then there will always be means of improving on OE parts. The opposite is happening actually, where emission and efficiency laws are getting more and more stringent, thus the manufacturers are having to put out more and more "dumbed down" pieces of equipment to satisfy all those requirements.

This leaves alot of room for improvement by the aftermarket who does not necessarily have to adhere to such regulations. A company like Katech here for example doesn't have to worry about the efficiency, emissions and noise levels of the engines/parts they create. GM does have to adhere to those rules pretty well.

the helmholtz resonator actually helps flow like the mac pro-chambers.

i would be willing to be that if any CAI designed had a hook up for it, you would see a slight gain over just tube.

those are some interesting numbers jason.

I know you're joking but to answer your question:
Making dyno headers
Making a custom engine harness
Making a custom AC compressor eliminator with manual tensioner
Making a custom dyno flywheel for the 8 bolt crank

With numbers like this I can't wait to see the supercharged 6.2 z06 version in a couple years with no gas guzzler tax and vvt and dod. I have a feeling the new z06 will be better than the outgoing zr1 but still at the z06 price.

I see peak torque is around 4600 vs earlier stuff ~4400 that in itself should raise BHP.
Im guessing the intake runners are a tad shorter or maybe wider?

Looking forward to cam numbers testing..
