ARP mains and rod bolt ???

I took my stock 6.2L rods into the machine shop to get honed for bigger wrist pins and they told me I should get my rods and mains checked because I am using ARP studs and bolts. He said that the clamping force is more on an ARP bolt and it distorts the journals. So they should be checked and then possibly line bored and oversized bearings used.....

Any truth to this!!???

They should always be line honed when installed and the rods should be "honed" as well. The higher clamping pressurr does indeed change the shape and they should be trued up. I have personally seen 4 engines with burned mains from arp studs with no line hone done.

Sounds like you found a good shop! Thats definitely a must! The clamping load is definitely higher with arps

Factory also doesn't line hone with side main bolts in, so all are off by .0002 if you are picky.

doesnt hurt to double check things if you have it apart but honestly i wouldnt worry about it too much
