Default Lt4 or lt5 cam in l83

Anyone used an lt4 or lt5 cam in a 5.3 l83 with an lt4 supercharger? Thinking about trying one as I can pick them up super cheap. Springs needed?

Bump... I also would like to know if anyone has used an LT5 (NON AFM) cam in a L83 or L84 5.3 liter

im waiting on answers also cause i want to do the same with the lt5 non afm cam in a l83??

I have an LT5 cam in an L83. Just got it started this week. It's a development motor though: LS7 intake and port injection. I think it would run better on a direct injection motor and with the LT4 cam phaser settings. I have it set to 0 right now but I hope to play around with tuning a couple other positions.

Why waste time doing a cam swap and not put a better cam in it? So many better options.

My old shop did a ported LT4 blower on a L83 truck. We put a BTR stg1 LT4 cam in it, ported L83 heads. That thing ripped!

From my understanding when you delete the GEN5's AFM you should do a cam swap as well because the cam lobes are different between the AFM cylinders and non-AFM cylinders.

I agree with ohioborn80. If you're going to invest the cost and effort to swap to a non-AFM setup (which I think is a good ideal) then why not use a better cam than a OEM offering? When you add up all the costs to do a cam swap and AFM delete in a GEN5 LT, trying to save a few $ on the piece that gives you the biggest reward for your investment seems pointless when there are some very good aftermarket cams out there. (Both VVT and non-VVT cams)

Correct...if you delete AFM then you have to run a Non AFM cam which the LT5 cam is Non AFM. I believe it is the only engine in the Gen 5 family that doesn't have AFM hardware in the engine.
The LT5 cam is basically the same specs as LT1 cam minus the AFM lobes...it also has a different fuel lobe. My guess is those with 5.3's are looking for a cheap replacement when performing a AFM delete being you can get the LT5 cam for 189.00 from Scoggin Dickey the last time I checked.
