The Australian Cops do their far share of hiding in bushes but they also use speed cameras that can book hundreds of people in a day doing a few mph over the posted speed limit , these tend to be hidden and the first you know about it is when you get the fine in the mail .

The car in the picture isn’t a standard Monaro , they have used the HSV (Holden special vehicles) version that comes with better brakes, wheels & tyres ,suspension and a different body kit . It also has a bigger price tag .

NEVER.
Majority of taxis in our land are LPG (propane) powered, with the LPG tank mounted in the trunk.

How useful would a 2 door taxi with absolutely no luggage space be ?

The vehicle in question was a 2002 HSV GTO Coupe, that HSV 'donated' to the Victoria Police as a public relations exercise. It was used in the Melbourne Traffic Management Unit (inner CBD) response area.

It certainly elicited a lot of public interest.

As for the yellow colour, it was simply the brightest colour that HSV had and it made the car stand out even more than usual.

Most of our traffic cars in Victoria are white, however, around 20 Specially Marked Anti Road Toll (SMART) cars are put into service each year. These have been blue, silver and poo yellow(I can't remember the colour).

Most Vic traffic cars are now Holden Commodore SS and some Ford XR6T/XR8s thrown in for good measure.

Approximateley 75% of the traffic fleet is marked, with 25% being unmarked cars.

Cheers,

Macca

Interesting information. Kinda sucks we can't get past a stock GTO let alone a HSV even if it is an amusing color. I'd probably so impressed if they had one here it would be not worth arguing the ticket for.

Thumbs up

Looks cool...although it does resemble a Taxi of sorts....a fast taxi-ride.

TAXI!!!!!!!!!!

They would be about as useful as the heroin addict taxi drivers in Albuquerque who decide they need to take a 20 mile detour around the entire city to drive you 10 blocks down the road.

Then when you finally get to the AFB you have to walk half a mile with 150 lbs (68.18 kilos) of luggage because th A-hole cab driver is driving with a loaded gun in the car and is trying to drive onto a nuclear research AFB....

...sorry about that I have issues...

It's the checker looking vinyl on the side that sorta kills the look. Otherwise it would be terrifying to suddenly have behind you if you decided to take a Crown Vict for a ride on the back roads.

Definately a lot faster than the Crown Vict or the v6 Impala.

Because Mad Max's uncle is the chief of police. I understand there will be some here who don't understand the above. It's OK everyone isn't on the same page

It would be cool to get some of those wheels and widen them. I like the way they look.

Be patient with my American brothers. Some of them still think Pontiac/GM came up with the name "GTO". I guess that other silly GTO from Italy didn't count.
