Hey all, been a member for a while gathering information for the intended swap into my 1971 Nova. I've made the decision that this is the route I want to go once it is time to freshin up my current power plant.

I currently have a 350 and a 4spd, nothing special but if works OK and plan on an LS1 and t-56. The availability of these engines up here is a lot less than what I have seen down in the US and when I do see them they are outragiously priced. Expecially based on what I have for sale on this forum.(I might have to get one sent up here when it is time).

Any way just wanted to say hey and here is a pic of my Nova. It is far from done but a work in progress.

Sweet ride!! Airdrie...Wow...spent many a night blasting thru there on the way back home.

I'm originally from Edmonton. I moved tp Ft. Worth, Texas back in 94. Can't say I miss the Alberta winters or, the $$$ prices for automotive parts and lack of places to shop for them up there. I still have a few friends up there that are into cars and they are always complaining about the scarce deals.

Good luck on your build,

Kev

Welcome from just across the border. I have found it is way cheaper to piece together a gen III motor. I just put together two of them, one is a 5.3 block bored to 3.898 so it is a 5.7 now using stock ls1 pistons & rods ( it's going to be a stock driver)

Good luck on your build.

Hey Kev, can't say I like the winters up here too much myself! The prices up here for everything car related are crazy! I am on a tight budget with 2 small kids and a wife who does not work so it takes me a long time to get the extra cash to do anything. Oh well, it gives me more time to do the research on the swap.

I can definatly see how using a 5.3L would be cheaper. This might be the way I have to end up going. Although for some reason I want that aluminum block, no real reason, just do. I have to do some research on whats different between the 5.3 and 5.7. Would it just be upgrading heads and intake after getting the internals done?
