6 speed problems

6 speed problems i replaced a good g.m. clutch assembly with a competion clutch assembly. since have trouble going into first and reverse, while engine is running, at first thought something was wrong with transmission., but if i turn the engine off the transmission goes into 1st and reverse with no problem, HELP!!

Did you change the slave while you had the transmission off?
Perhaps try some new fluid in the master cylinder.
I found my old slave cylinder wasn't up to a high performance clutch, and had to swap it out.
