Default Need conservative LS1 rebuild advice

Love my 2000 Z - it has 145K miles to-date. Test drove a 2010 Challenger RT and was so disappointed in the performance (soft transmission and buffalo-like handling) I decided to dump 18K into my Z and start over. I'd consider a 2010 Camaro but I use a wheelchair and the '10 Camaro is not conducive to wheelchair in-and-out. All my motor work will be done by others.

The only mod I have on LS1 is an SLP Flow Pack. My question is: In order to build up the horspower to 400 or so and loose a max of 4-5 mpg accross the board what do I do? FAST intake, bigger MAF, LS6 heads, MSD Blaster Coil, headers ... I really would like a recipe so to speak for a tried and true configuration.

I will be adding a Borla Cat and beefing up my automatic trans and purchasing a Diablo programmer when I do the motor.

Elwood

400 is easy to get.

With 18K to blow i would not shoot for 400HP. I would probably shoot for double that with almost 20K to spend lol. IF you want to spend 18K on your Z get a new Forged LS1, Trickflow heads, a cam, Fast92/92, An overkill transmission build, a 9inch, Complete suspension setup, 200 shot wet kit, ect ect lol

18K is fo entire car ... 3K paint, 2.5 K interior, 2K suspension, 2.3K wheels/tires, 1.1K exhaust and balance to motor/trans and cost over-runs.

what color you painting it and what wheels you looking at?i'd go for jetstream blue metallic with ccw lm20's.as for the engine 400 is really conservative.go for 450hp with a torquer v2 cam, fast 92/92 setup, prc stage 2.5 5.3 heads, and a yankss 3600/4000 stall.thats what my setup is going to be and im sure there are many others with the same.that with a full suspension and a 9inch rear would be very nice.
