Default New old guy from Ct.

Just wanted to say high and to let every one know that after 40 years I'm back into cars. I started out with a '66 chevelle SS 396 that my older brother totaled when I was in the service. When I got out in '74 that was pretty much the end of an era ,anyone remember the oil crisis of 1973? So in '74 I got into motorcycles and stayed with that for 35 years because for a long time that was the best bang for the buck. I still own a Triumph Rocket with a 2.3 liter motor and I just picked up a '01 Z28 with 48K. It already has an after market exhaust and I just installed a set of sub-frame connectors. I'm looking for suggestions for bolt on performance upgrades. Right now I'm looking at new plugs, cold air induction and maybe a dyno tune so any ideas will be welcomed. This is all new technology so I'm kind of starting all over again.

Welcome to the site and nice buy.. Is it an M6 or A4 car? Underdrive pulley, Stall if A4, Better clutch if M6, Headers(if not already on the car), Intake(although your car has the LS6 already) Wheel/tires! I would start with those things.. get used to the power then step it up a bitch with a H/C combo! And remember Search is your friend, you can find just about anything you want on this site!

Hi and thanks. It is an M6 and except for the suspension I'm going to keep this one almost stock. This is going to be more of a show and go car with good handling. My days of street and strip are over, been there and done that. All I'm looking for in the motor is to make about 300 to 325 horse @ the rear wheels. I like the car allot they have come a long way from the days when G.M. and all the others would take a family car and stick a big ol' cast iron big block in the front put some badges on it, like SS or GTO, and call it the day. Didn't know any better back then but now when I look back they were some of the worst handling cars with lousy brakes. I can't believe some of the prices they are selling for now days. $40,000 plus for a Road Runner!! The only thing I don't like about this car are all the jackasses out there in there M3's and Civics wanting to race me.

It is pewter matallic with a black rag top (the convertible was a compromise with the wife).Where is a good place to have work done on our cars? I was wondering if Corvette Center in Newington would work on them. As far as a cam I thought the '01 and '02 had a different cam with a longer duration than the other fourth generation Camaros?

Thanks for the information, the reason why I asked was I got this information from one of the stickys on this sight:

LQ4 CAMSHAFT
Powertrain engineers found an elegant, cost-effective answer when the platform team asked for a five-horsepower increase in the 2001 LS1: They borrowed a billet-steel camshaft from the LQ4 Vortec 6000 truck engine. The new cam has more advance and different timing, delivering more torque lower in the rev range. Coupled with an improved air cleaner developed for the LS6 V8, the new cam increase horsepower by five in the Firebird.

An 01' M6 with a a full exhaust should be around 325rwhp or more. If you got it with just a catback, I would do headers and a tune and youll be over what your goal is for not alot of money. It will sound good and drive as close to stock as you can get with simple bolt ons.
