Default 1,098,588 Noobie intro post...

How's it going all! I'm Franchi, I like cars, long walks on the beach, a good cup of coffee, and...well, you get the idea. :-) I'm actually from the DARK side as I'm into Mustangs but I mostly signed up here to learn more about LS1 tech as I'm into all types of cars/brands/styles and it bugs me when something smokes me in the Mustang and I have no idea of what size engine it has.

Let the flaming begin... lol

Well good sir i do believe the flaming will be minimal, as you seem to have a good attitude and are trying to be a true car enthusiast. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer haha. Its always good to start out with questions you may have about LS1 cars, so to answer your first question the LS1 is a 5.7l 346ci all aluminum motor. Personally, my 98 Z28 dynoes 355rwhp and 366ft lbs with bolt ons, and runs a reliable 12.8 in the 1/4 on street tires. Ask away with any questions you have and give us a little information about your ride

Good info, thanks! I know they were 5.7 but I didn't know they were all aluminum. Jealous....

My 06 Mustang GT is currently at 344 rwhp, with Comp Thumpr Cams and all basic bolt on's. It's a heavy turd but fun to drive around on the street. :-)

What's the basic breakdown of years and models that the LS1 is in? So I don't seem like a total idiot poking around...

Fbody refers to Camaros and Firebirds btw. Also some years 2000-2002 some cars came with an LS6 because they had a shortage of LS1s I believe. But the LS6 doesn't really have any power difference from an LS1. Also the 01-02 stock fbodys vs 98-00 stock fbodies have the LS6 intake manifolds stock regardless o having the LS6 or not, and that gives them another 10ish horsepower.

Also don't think the Z28 is any slower than the SS. Only real performance difference stock is ram air and a crappy cat back exhaust, which is easily made up by driver mod

That's one sharp looking GT btw, ever taken it to the track?

That clarifies a lot, thanks! And nope, never been to the track. Would like to try sometime even though I know the driver mod would blow monkey rear end right now but so many things to do, only so much time.

Isnt that what i said? Some had LS6s because they had a shortage of LS1's, although i did not specify blocks, so if thats what you are refering to then yes my bad haha.

Also Franchi i believe the stock rear on your GT doesnt have the same problem of being a weak piece of **** like our stock 10 bolts, so driver mod or not you shouldnt have a problem haha
