IMO, A4 transmission with a 3600-4k stall would be my choice for drag racing. I'd also skip the 10 bolt rear (as already stated) and get at least a 12bolt rear.

That could be another option! It all depends on if I grab an original manual or auto trans chassis.

Good find on the SS!! Depending on how the setup is 4.10s may hurt instead of help which is why the majority of A4 owners go with 3.73s. Good luck on the build!!

Thanks! Since the only track near is 1/8th mile, I was thinking..

9"
4.10's
28" M&H's
4L80E
3600 Stall

And of course all the basic bolt ons with spray and a good tune!

I like Yank's converters so if you are gonna stay N/A look into the PT series, 4000 or 4400 stall. If you are going boosted or Nitrous look into the Pro Yank Series 3600 stall.

Just saw that you are gonna spray so look into the Pro Yank 3600 converter. It's rated for 1200rwhp too

That's a pretty serious stall lol. I'm aiming for 400rwhp N/A 550+ on spray for now

I just want to have a trans/diff that can handle my track abuse!

Well think of it this way, you have room to grow with that converter. It's their top of the line converter btw and it is available for the 4L80E as well.

That's true, I'll keep it in mind. Thanks

Nice MKIII. I have a 7M-GTE in my off road toy, great motor. I really enjoyed the totalled MKIII I bought for the motor until I had to tear it apart.

Looks like a good deal on the SS. I agree with everyone else 12 bolt or 9 inch. Breaking axles and tearing up R&Ps sucks.

Very nice MKIII and killer deal on the SS. Ditching the 4L60E and swapping to the 4L80E is a great idea. If the SS also sees a decent amount of street use I too vote 3.73s due to auto and I'd stick to a 3600 or 4000 stall at most. Just my opinion of having the best of both worlds for a nice street/track setup. And might as well go to the 9", S60 or the like to have a rear that's suitable for the long haul.

Thank you, an older gentlemen previously owned it since new, maintained it pretty well too. The car will be a street/strip car but I think 4.10's will be better all around. I'm not concerned about fuel economy too much, more so 60ft times! lol. The only local track is an 1/8th, our 1/4mi track is about an 1 1/2 hour drive away. But I still need help deciding which rear end to run with. Majority of them are too expensive and overkill for my horsepower goals honestly.

A 12 bolt diff is plenty for 400whp, even more so being an auto
