Default Novice to LS1 Tech!

Hello everyone,
Today is my first time on this site, I am so glad I've found it. I love classic cars and by reading some of the threads you guys do as well....I currently have two classic cars, a 1966 pontiac tempest convertible had a 400 engine bored 60 over in it, just sold it so I can fund my LS swap. And I have a 1971 pontiac lemans sport, bought for my wife to fix up with me and drive she's not interested so now I have two cars needing fixing. The 1971 lemans has a 428 engine in it. I am looking for a mechanics or shop in the MD, NC or VA area that does LS swaps. I've called several places and everyone is trying to charge me anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 for the job. I am not a mechanic by any means but I still have a family to feed. If you read my post and have information that can help me out please don't hesitate to contact me!!!!!
Thanks,
Shake Williams

$5000 isn't a bad price, depending on what all that entails.
What is included for $5000?

Welcome to the site. From what I've seen in the industry those prices are pretty common. Now as with any build or swap there is a ton of variables involved. Do your research and ask to look at some vehicles they have previously swapped. That way you don't wind up wasting money, because unfortunately there is a lot of hacks out there.

So this doesn't include parts?
That's insane.

I've done a few A-body swaps. After I finish up my current one in a few weeks, I'll post an entire how-to on doing a swap using a 5.3 and 4L60e trans, complete with lots of aftermarket goodies for $2500 or so.

Default LS1 swap

JoeNova,

Looking forward to reading it. I have the engine/trans with all of the accessories. Just looking to have it installed correctly.
