Default BE GENTLE, my first LS1🤫

After searching for a couple years with a loaded gun, I finally pulled the trigger on an Onyx black 2002 Camaro SS SLP /345hp performance pkg, CME exhaust, Blackwing, and other goodies from SLP including an original first addition Predator Diablo tuner plug n’ play. 100% original 2,600 miles. Dialed up currently halfway to 91 octane tune, it’s potent. Potentially 360-365hp at this point. Full race would be the 93 octane tuning parameters, timing advance, and changing shift points on the auto tranny, but better make dang sure you find a good grade pump 93 and use a good ethanol treatment, or it’ll sound like spoons bangin’ on mamas pots and pans.100% original 2,600 miles. Stored climate controlled under the SLP cover, driven just enough to keep the parts lubricated. Never raced. Collector owned. Trickle charger, PH testing on the coolant, fluids rotated. Washed twice in 17 years.I’m not a tech guy by any stretch, but actually a hold over from the 70’s and 80’s. Old muscle, gladly traded away for an awesome wife and two super kids. Said when I retired, I’d pull the trigger on that last bullet in my gun. But did I hold it to my head?? Why did I go tech instead of old muscle? I swear I was a sneeze away from pulling the trigger on Chevelles, Camaros and corvettes, which all I played with in the old west. Maybe at 56 I have enough learnin’ left in the ole cobwebs. I’ll be looking for help for sure. As a great philosopher once said; “LUCY! You have some splaining to do!” Greetings to all.

Welcome to LS1Tech! If it were mine, I’d push it to the back of my shop, put the cover back on it, and never touch it, but I’m like that. Then I’d go find me a Chevelle, and do an LS swap. Seriously that’s too nice of a car for me to mod, or even drive for that matter, but I have a few nice vehicles in my shop with low miles. Great find sir, she’s a beauty!

oh man.. that thing looks newer than new. looks like it hasn't even needed much washing/detailing.
are you going to be able to not modify it?

whatever you paid for it... imo it was worth it. i'd do the same if i was up for a new car.

Yes sir I gave 21k. Not sure if that’s a good value or not, but I’m happy with it. As I mentioned I’ve only built old muscle, Just not really sure values on new tech cars. The only mod recommendation by my GM tech that would keep it simple and an acceptable mod, would be changing out the 75mm throttle body for a nice ported polished stock 75mm one, 15 minutes, and easily swapped back out in the future. I found an LS1 performance outfit that uses aluminum billet. This ported and polished tb will move 922cfm of air verses stock 798cfm. Adds just a few more ponies, but the more aggressive throttle response is well worth it. I think the $399 price tag is worth it. He polishes the exterior of it as well, looks like a mirror. But that’s all I would do.

Good value $21K yes. Like buying a brand new car. These cars should rise in another few years. Especially if the Camaro stops production in 2023.

If you love and plan to keep, mod away to your liking. I'd keep all original parts though. It's very hard to find an Fbody not beat up. You did good. Enjoy the ride.

Why this instead of older muscle? Was a dilema for me, but a simple one. I wanted something that was genuinly comfortable to be in and drive. Something that was modern car reliable. Something that I could make faster if I wanted to, but something that hadn't been poked, hacked and modified by others for decades. A bone stock 4th gen was it. I will admit - I get a bit jealous when i go cruising with my friend in his 69 Camaro. He's got the old school muscle look, that cammed 350 with flowmasters sounds just about perfect, so he gets more attention.

But hes hopping onto some flat as F, "bucket" factory seats that arent comfortale and let you slide all over arournd basic turns. It sounds good, but drones on the highway. No power windows or locks....no radio. Not a travesty but my factory Monsoon sounds good to me and i can listen to my Sirius until my heart is content no matter how long the drive. His Hotchkiss suspension rides pretty good, but NOTHING like the BMR/Koni setup in my Bird. Then there is sound insulation, decent carpeting.... It's fun to be in his car. It's fun AND NICE to be in mine. And when it comes time to push them - straights or curves - that 4 speed, cammed LT-1 can't keep up with me, nor can those lowering leafs etc make his car handle as well or with the confidence of mine.

I bought a bone stock, 2002 WS6 because when it came time to finally buy a toy, I wanted something that I could just get in and drive. You can find good muscle cars for around the same price. But for an all around fast, fun, COMFORTABLE car you can not beat a $20K 4th gen. And people do ask me "why didnt you buy X, Y or Z.?" referring to muscle cars. Cuz I love the way this looks and it is a world better in most ways. I'm not in a position to WORK on a car, I barely have the opportunity to drive mine. But when I do have time I want to just enjoy, worry-free. I know that if I bought somethign else it would still be sitting in my garage untouched waiting for me to get it to where I wanted it to be to drive it. I'd buy my now 20 year time capsule all over again. Chevelles and blown fox bodies and 1st gen camaros that friends pint out allof the time be damned. YOU buy that car, and I'll pay you to drive it. Me, I'm gonna buy something bine stock that I can hop in and enjoy right now.

Congrats.

Thanks for that, I think I’ve really just been waiting for some to give me the green light in the back of my mind. I sold my last performance in ‘93, when I got married, I love my wife dearly but man I still loose sleep over that 1983 Chevy Citation Xll, cammed out 2.8 HO v6, four speed, geared, fiberglass hood with functional cowl induction, all factory. Rare car, bought from our local police dept when they went Ford Crown Vicky, they ran two Xlls. 135 hp, 165 ft lbs torque. Super light car front wheel drive. 14 inch rims, factory Goodyear Eagle Gts, easily barked the tires through third gear. Smoked my 1981 corvette, even though it’s only an L81 with about 180 hp with virtually no torque to move the weight. Probably the corvette’s saddest year.

Yeah, go buy that thing. The debatable Camaro is totally gay compared to it.

I would never mod that car if its 100% original. If you want to mod, other F-body's are easy to find. Don't ruin this gem!

If you want to mod, Ill trade you mine + $5,000 and you can mod away. It's also an '02 SS SLP#9468 31k original miles. The car is 100% original. Just put new tires on the original rims, same tires that came with it GoodYear Eagle F1 275/40ZR17, 50 miles on them. Serious offer. I paid $17k.

Yup. It'll hit the street once a month. Maybe. And get trailered to car shows.

Man! 21k, that is a freaking steal. Please do not mod that car. I just bought a1998 formula WS6 with 2200 miles. I paid more than that. If you want to mod one, find another and sell me that one. Mine is stored and I have only put 250 miles on it this year. It will be driven 500 miles per year max. These low mileage ones are too rare now to hack up. Modded ones are a dime a dozen.

If I was going to mod a 4th gen, it would be a questionable SS I picked up for $3500, not that car.
You spent 21k. Don't touch it.
