Default Hey LS1... Greetings from Warner Robins, GA

I joined because I was informed that this is one of the best places to get good information regarding LS swaps. I have a 72 Monte Carlo (A-body), and after much deliberating, I have pretty much made my mine up on doing a LS swap. With that said I am still debating on whether I want to go with the 5.3L or the 6.0L, but I'm leaning towards the 5.3L due to the overall budget. I can turn a wrench a little bit and I know a good mount of car parts, but I have never embarked on a journey such as this. So, I guess you can say I am here for intellectual courage. Otherwise, I'm going to have to put it in the shop to have the swap done for me. Not sure what to expect from the forum, but I am hoping it presents the opportunity to meet cool people and participate in meets.

Welcome to LS1Tech from Dawsonville! Lots of A-body swaps here. Go to our Conversions And Hybrids section and do a search. You’ll find several. If your going to go the kit route (vs making everything yourself) take a look at Holley. They offer everything you’ll need to physically get the swap in your car, from engine/tranny mounts, to headers, and oil pan.
Figure your budget for the swap and assume you’ll almost double it. Happens every time almost. It’s the little things that will $100 bill you to death.
Fuel system can get tedious. You want to use PTFE hose. Don’t skimp. In tank pumps run cooler and quieter, which will last longer.
Most of all have fun. If you don’t enjoy this, the project will stall, and you’ll end up selling it. Seen it countless times.
Start a build thread over there in Conversions And Hybrids. Lots of folks willing to jump in and help.

Thanks for the info and input Che70velle. I'm in the process of putting together a parts/price list of the things that I will need to get the motor and tranny into the car. Originally I was looking for an all-in-one kit and the only one that I found so far is the Trans Dapt kits. However, I don't like the fact that you need to purchase the relocation kit to make that work. As for fuel I've already converted to a PTFE fuel line and I really like the Holley RetroFit fuel modules, so I may just go with that. From going through the forum post I 'm tracking that I need to get motor mount adapter, new motor mounts (needed these anyway), F-body oil pan, headers, and a new fuel pump & regulator. I will look into starting a build thread.

Welcome! I'm kinda swapped...I swapped my stock LS1 for a LS6 longblock, but it was pretty much a direct drop in on my '98 Z28...NOTHING like doing a swap on a non-original LS car!

Looking forward to seeing your progress! I'm only 15 mins. from you!

Welcome!!!
This is what I'm using on 6.0/4l80E swap into 1970 Cutlass. Aeromotive stealth II tank with 340 pump, 6an ptfe lines, holley filter/regulator, holley forward frame mounts, f body engine mounts, f body trans mount on Holley crossmember, Holley 302-3 oil pan, holley headers, ICT billet relocation bracket. So far everything fit and lined up without any issues.

Hey BandDirector,
Thanks for the welcome. Unfortunately for me a LS6 isn't in the cards right now, but I visited your site and it a lot of good details and information there. That must be one hellava ride in that Z28 of yours. Hopefully we can cross paths one day here in the near future.

Thanks for the welcome EddieK. Did you choose to go with the Areomotive stealth II tank because you needed a new fuel tank?

yeahcc I tried to pm you, but I haven't been able to locate the PM button or links. I'm beginning to think that I have to be a member to send PMs. If you have that feature feel free to PM me and hopefully I will be able to reply to you.

Click on the username. A box will pop up. Second line of box says “send xxxxx a private message”. Easy peasy. You might need a small post count to use the feature however, so time to get to posting out in the forum. Posts in the intro section are unnumbered, and don’t count...

Wow! I haven't updated that site in years! I guess I need to...I've added more mods since that last update too...

Once all this COVID19 stuff is over, there are usually some monthly meets in the WR area...I think the cruise in at Steak N Shake still happens monthly, and I'm not sure if there's still one at the Peach Shops in Byron monthly...
