New to LS world, rear engine dragster
Hey folks,
Been dragracing sportsman class at NHRDA and locally here in Medicine Hat, Alberta for 8 years now. Bought a 97 chassis craft rear engine dragster roller a couple years ago, that was setup for SBC/BBC with powerglide. I'm a noob when it comes to the gas world, have been a diesel head for all these years, racing a duramax reg cab shortbed truck. My original plan was to modify the chassis, and run a 6.7L Cummins with TH400. But now with how the economy is and work slowed right down that will probably be way to much money and time to realize that goal. I've decided to look into the LS as a powerplant, found a 2005 LQ4 6.0 shortblock and 2004 5.3 LM7 complete motor with wiring harness ecm etc. Hoping to use the 6.0 shortblock, maybe change out the pistons and keep stock bottom end. The guy also threw in an old powerglide trans but not sure i am going to run that. I'd love to run a shorty glide but still undecided, need more research between that and the TH400. Car is setup with air shifter for a glide already so there's that.
Also still undecided on if i'm gonna turbo it or not. I would really really like to turbo it, but don't know if i'm gonna have enough room in the chassis to accomplish this. My buddy is trying to change my mind to run a carb, but i'm completely clueless about carbs, seriously don't know anything about them, and i prefer more modern stuff when it comes to vehicles.
Anyways i've been reading on here for a while, and there is a ton of great info here. I'll start a build thread and try to keep up with the progress. Hoping to slowly work on this project to have it running for 2021 season. One more thing that needs to be done is the cage needs to get cut off and i'll have to find someone to build me a bigger one. I'm 6'3 220lbs, shoulders are too wide for the current cage and top of head touches top of cage without a helmet lol.
Thanks for reading and hope to keep learning from you guys!
