1970 Nova - C5 corvette mashup
Hello,
I recently got my project car on the road and, seeing as how I'll be hopping up the engine at some point, figured I start an introduction thread.
The car is a 1970 Nova and I've owned it since I was 16. It was your typical bondo basket small block car that needed a fair amount of work. I tore it down a few years ago to do a pro-touring type build with aftermarket suspension, brakes and what not. It was in researching my options when I discovered a company out of Ohio selling rolling corvette chassis. I thought, I wonder if I could squeeze one of those under my Nova...
So I bought this to find out!
After a ton of work its on the road. I had to stretch the corvette by about 6.5 inches and widen the back end of the nova by about 5 inches. The only stock panel left on the car is the drivers side door and the roof. Since the car now has a transaxle I had to redo the entire floor to accommodate everything. It also has a full cage so its nice and stiff. Probably the only Nova out there with abs, traction control, stability control, cruise control, irs and a transaxle!
One of my coworkers has a set of car scales so I weighed it and it came out gat just over 3100 lbs with 49.4 front and 50.6 rear. Pretty well balanced! I've put a couple hundred miles on it and its great to drive. Does need a bit more power, or a lot more, as the stock ls1 isn't exactly crazy by current standards.
