New member, not new to 4th gens. I’ve previously owned three of them, along with a couple third gens. It’s been about twelve years since I sold my F-Body and the bug recently bit again…
I picked up this ‘99 Z28 over the weekend. It’s a running/driving project car that’s been in the same family for the past 22 years. Some online research, the Carfax and the owners story of how his brother-in-law acquired the car proved that this car is 1 of 45 Monterey Maroon Metallic Camaro’s built in 1999 and registered as a GM corporate fleet vehicle. The story had something to do with testing this specific paint color which was a new option for the year 2000. 1 of 10 built in this configuration, Z28 with T-Tops, tan leather and N98 wheels.
Anyway, the car has just over 138,000 miles, with over 100,000 of them being amassed between 1999 and 2006. The car appears to have been driven off and on until the early 2010’s where it mostly sat thereafter. The previous owner poured a few grand into repairs a couple of years ago and then let it sit again.
It runs and drives well, holds oil pressure well and the transmission shifts great. It does seem to be a little down on power, but I didn’t get into it that hard. There is an oil leak which I suspect is related to the PCV valve. There’s a banging in the rear that I haven’t checked out yet. The A/C does not work. The power window motors work well, but the drivers side stops about 3/16” from going all the way up. It needs some cosmetic attention, including new seats or seat covers. My plan for this car is to restore it to as close to original as possible and use it as nice weather cruiser.
First time I’ve ever seen one of these cars that had an unused ash tray and cigarette lighter, so that’s a plus!
