Default New here 2002 Z28

I just picked up a two owner 70k mile Z. The previous owner had it for years and was 83 years old. The car is literally a time capsule. Its got you typical bolt ons. CHI, Kooks Longtubes, 12 bolt, A4 rebuild, refreshed, and a 3200 stall. Its got UMI suspension mods down to it as well. The underside looks like it has never seen rain. Glad to be here and looking forward to contributing in the future!

Here are some updated pictures. I installed a replacement dash cover. Not sure what GM was thinking long term, but it turned out nice. I installed a billet grill for now until I find a SLP one. I converted all of the lights over to LED. I still need to replace the glove box light, but that is it. I also installed new headlights. I also bought a shifter conversion kit so that I can run a Hurst pistol grip on in the car. I hope it passes inspection next month. It has no CEL's on it has a high flow cat with LT's. It just smells really bad of gas fumes. I need to get it tuned soon. It runs fine, just running a little rich.

Really nice looking Z! Sounds like it will be a lot of fun, and it seems like it has had some quality mods done.

It is a nice car. A lot nicer then the 98 Z I had 14 years ago lol. I did a two step paint correction on it, and then I ceramic coated it with Koch Chemie C0.02! Thanks for the welcome! Looking forward to learning more this time around!

I love these cars in silver with chrome wheels; yours is a twin to my '98 "time capsule" with just 19k miles. I don't see a lot of silver examples from the later model years like yours. Once GM introduced pewter for the '99 F-body model year, silver became less common. I owned two of these cars in pewter and one in silver, and I definitely prefer the silver by far.

Car looks much better with the freshened up headlight lenses. When they get cataracts it really ages the appearance of the whole car. There are some threads with instructions on how to get the aftermarket headlight housings to fit better (gap improvement), it basically involves pushing the mounting point a bit forward to close the gap between the lens and the bumper. I just wish the new housings were a little better fit out of the box.

Anyway, looks like the paint came out beautifully!

I have become partial to silver. My 19 Charger R/T was silver, and my Ecoturd Flex is Silver. I am little confused on the actual numbers that were made in 02. I read 33 total, but I find that a little hard to believe. I plan on wet sanding and polishing the stockers at some point. I was able to mess with the headlights and get them to fit almost perfect. You just can't beat factory lights tho. I would love to see pictures of your 98! My one and only F body was a black 98 Z A4 car. I brought my oldest home from the hospital in it. I lucked out with this one. 2 owners and the owner that I bought it from was in his 80s. We hit it off because he drag raced at the same track that I did and probably raced my Grandpa back in the day. His wife told him he was too old to be street racing anymore so he sold the car lol.

Great story to go with the car!

I checked out my production specs book for the 2002 model year, and 4907 total Camaros were built that year in Sebring Silver Metallic (RPO 13U). Of that number, yours is one of 606 Z28s that came with Ebony leather and an auto trans. If you were to break it down to the most negligible options, it could very well be one of just 33.

Mine is very similar to yours except that I have cloth interior. I bought mine directly from the original owner when it was just a few years old; it's been a show car its whole life:

That is how this car will live its life as well. I am already gearing up for car show season. Mine needs a a place wet sanded on the front bumper and touched up, but its very clean for its age. Yours is a beautiful example. I will have to find a better option break down. Do you know where I can possibly get a reprint of my window sticker? I plan on finding the some of the old F body advertisements that I had as a teenager to use when I car show.

Thank you!

Not sure if anybody is reprinting these window stickers, I have the original for mine so I've never needed to investigate this.

There is a book that came on the market a few years ago called, "All 1998-2002 Chevrolet Camaro Colors, Codes, & Quantities", it is by Robert Casey. Lots of great production breakdown/spec info on the various 1998+ Camaros. Very detailed info and useful if you want some paper reference material of this sort. I think the book came out in late 2020 and I bought a copy right away. Here's a link to a more generic production breakdown for 2002, but there is much more information included in the aforementioned book:

Awesome! Thank you for the link! I am ordering it now! I need to figure out where or if I can get a reprint of my window sticker. It is always nice to have it.

I installed a Hurst handle this morning, but I am not liking how high it is. I can't seem to find any picture of how to cut the metal part of the shifter. I have a picture in my head, but I want to make sure it is right lol.

I finally got around to moving it outside and taking some recent updated pictures. Those headlights really made a world of difference. I am doing the Berger panel this week and I ordered Nickey emblems for it. I literally found 1 set still available. They were remaking them back when I was building my 67 Camaro. Any who, I got a smooth bellow I need to slap on it as well. Enjoy the pictures.
