Hello from the MidWest
Greetings All, I live near the Indianapolis 500 track, and have had a keen interest in cars since getting my drivers license in the mid 1970's. I wrenched out of necessity early on, to have a car to drive to High School. I continued my passion with a project car or two. In the mid 1980's I owned a 1981 Trans Am (small block V8) that my wife to be and I drove the 1400 miles one way to Key West. While that car is long gone, I have had a 1979 TA garage stored for more than 20 years. Now retired, I'd like to bring the old girl back to life with an LS drivetrain. Since its one of 110,000 1979s , I don't feel the least bit guilty doing the upgrades. Also planning to lower, big brakes on all four corners, and nice wide wheels/tires.
I've read many posts here the last few months, and am definitely seeking input as I continue to read through the forums.
I'd like to consider a "427" LS engine build, in the 500-600 HP range, as I'll mostly cruise to events here in the Mid West, perhaps an occasional 1/4 run, at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
The more I read, I start to feel a little late to the party, as there are many great posts about sleeving/machine work from ERL, etc. However, it looks like posts from 10-15 years ago, reference Shops who are no longer in business.
Looking forward to your shared experiences!
