Another FNG checking in!!!
I'm Mike from Jacksonville Florida. After nearly a 20 year hiatus from hot rodding I'm back in the game! My current ride is a black 2000 Camaro SS convertible M6. I LOVE THIS CAR!!!
It all started long ago when I bought a wrecked '69 Camaro SS when I was 15 and got it street ready with my earnings from pumping gas (anyone remember FULL SERVICE gas stations?). I initially modified the engine with a carb, manifold, and headers. Next I swapped the turbo 350 for a Super T-10 4 speed. Then I added some ported and polished 2.02" double hump heads from a 'Vette. Next was the cam change. Not long after that I drove a friend's 440 powered Roadrunner and knew I couldn't live with out a big block. 3 years after buying the car it had an LS-6 (450 HP) 454 cu. in. rat motor, a turbo 400, and a 9" Ford rear end. A 3 year tour in the Army woke me up to reality that I would have to get out of hot rodding to focus on my career. Not enough $$$ for both, my folks were poor. I sold the car (with GREAT regret) to fund part of my college education. I finally made it to where I wanted to be career wise and knew it was time for another Camaro. I couldn't find a 1st generation car here locally that wasn't rusted out, so I looked into the late model Camaros and am now deleriously happy I did. The handling of the 4th gen. cars is superior, and the high tech HP is nothing to laugh at!
I've spent my lunch breaks for the last 2 weeks reading as much as I can from this web site to learn as much as possible about the LS1/Camaro, and to try and learn from the mistakes of others. This site is GREAT, and thanks to all of you who share your info on success' and failures!!!
